Liverpool vs. Tottenham score: Firmino nets winner as Reds make more Premier League history

Liverpool continued its historic run thanks to Robert Firmino, who scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against Tottenham in London on Saturday. In a rematch of the last season's Champions League final, Liverpool got a fine strike from the Brazilian in the first half and held on against a Spurs team that was missing star striker Harry Kane, who is out at least until April as he recovers from surgery on his hamstring.

As for Liverpool, it has earned 61 out of 63 points to start the Premier League season -- the most any side has ever registered after 21 games in any of Europe's big five leagues (hat-tip to NBC Sports' Arlo White, who pointed it out on the broadcast).

Early on in Jurgen Klopp's tenure as Reds manager, his players lacked ideas and maturity to finish out games, but now they have showed little-to-no weakness, beating Tottenham for the third time in the last eight months. Here's the goal that lifted Liverpool to victory:

Combined with Leicester City's surprising loss to Southampton, Liverpool is now 16 points clear atop the table with 17 games to go. Manchester City can pull within 14 with a win on Sunday, though at this point it may be too much to overcome.

With the loss, Tottenham sits two points out of the top six and into eighth place, and nine points back of the top four.

Spurs go to Watford next Saturday at 7:30 a.m. ET, while the Reds host Manchester United on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. ET. United is the only team in the league to have taken a point from Klopp's squad. You can see both matches on fuboTV (Try for free).

What a waste from Lamela. Just tried to do way too much. Doesn't create a chance when he had the opportunity to. Awful.

It's better and better from Spurs. Really knocking on the door now. Reds looking for stability in the middle to close it out.

Aurier's ball to the far post is perfect, but Lo Celso knocks it wide!

Really good from Tottenham down the right as Lo Celso gets through, and he delivers a pacey ball across the face of goal that nobody can connect with.

13 minutes to go as Tottenham looks to find something in the end. Reds looking to close this one out on the counter.

Two good chances for Liverpool there to put it away. Just a sleepy Tottenham backline.

It's a brighter start for Spurs in the second half. A bit more urgency and width. The pressure in the middle is forcing Liverpool into mistakes, but it's time to capitalize in attack.
