Manchester City vs. Tottenham player ratings: Gundogan once again the star as City shut down Son

Manchester City continued their Premier League dominance with a 3-0 win over struggling Tottenham on Saturday. Ilkay Gundogan played a role in each goal, scoring two of them himself, as Spurs were held to nothing in attack just days after scoring four times in the FA Cup. The win further cements City as the title favorites, while Tottenham are at risk of slipping out of the top four race.

But how did each player perform in this one? Here are our player ratings for the match for every starter, substitute and manager.

All ratings are out of 10, and the higher the number the better. A zero would be a first-minute red card. A 10 would be like a dominant hat trick.

Manchester City ratings

Name

How did they do?

Rating

(GK) Ederson

He had an assist and didn't concede anything. That's all you need to know.

8

(DEF) Olexandr Zinchencko

Very good. Had a game-high seven tackles, recovered the ball six times, cleared out anything that came his way and won the majority of his duels.

8

(DEF) Aymeric Laporte

Want to know how much he had to do? He didn't even have to make a tackle in this one. A spectator, but it wasn't his fault.

5

(DEF) John Stones

Stones was the busier of the two center backs, strong in his duels and did well to get in front of shots. Another strong performance.

7

(DEF) Joao Cancelo

Continues to improve under Pep Guardiola and gets forward well. He's grown a lot as a defender and fights hard despite his lack of size. Created three chances.

6

(MID) Rodri

The surprise penalty taker was fortunate to score as he didn't hit it well. His passing was near perfect in the middle.

7

(MID) Bernardo Silva

Had some really nice moves down the right to beat defenders, but he didn't create anything in the final third. A rather quite night when it comes to finding open attackers.

6

(MID) Ilkay Gundogan

City's most in form player continues to dominate, but he did pick up an injury. Scored twice, won a penalty and hardly did anything even below average. Very sharp.

9

(FWD) Raheem Sterling

Provided a perfect assist for the second goal but would like to see him get more looks on frame himself. Still, he did more than enough in this one and created three chances.

7

(FWD) Gabriel Jesus

Lasted 79 minutes before coming off. His quick passing helped open up space attack, and he had threes hots of his own, though none were very close.

6

(FWD) Phil Foden

He gives this team another dimension. He was sharp in his passing, creating some really decent looks for his side.

7

(SUB 1) Ferran Torres

Late but that helped with possession.

N/A

(SUB 2) Riyad Mahrez

Late sub who almost pulled off a spectacular goal.

N/A

Manager Pep Guardiola

With some key players missing or rested, his boys delivered once again. The team was confident, smart and limited mistakes, but the knock to Gundogan is concerning.

Tottenham ratings

Name

How did they do?

Ratings

(GK) Hugo Lloris

Not good. Should have saved the penalty kick, and you can argue he could have stopped the second too. But his defense didn't do him any favors.

4

(DEF) Ben Davies

Not overly confident in defense, struggling with City's speed. He was a step too close on a few occasions and got memorably torched by Sterling.

5

(DEF) Eric Dier

At times it was like they played a man down. His positioning was awful and it proved costly. Got worse as the game went on.

4

(DEF) Davinson Sanchez

Got twisted by Gundogan on the last goal, but he deserves credit for blocking four shots by putting himself in a great spot time and time again, realizing how things were shaping up around him.

6

(DEF) Japhet Tanganga

He showed his versatility playing out on the right and had more good moments than bad. The young player was caught going for tackles when he should have been a bit more reserved, but he was still quality.

7

(MID) Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

He wasn't the clean, normal player we are used to describing. It's been a bad week for him, ending with conceding a penalty in this one.

5

(MID) Tanguy Ndombele

Lasted just over an hour and had the team's best chances at scoring. That's concerning, considering who else played.

5

(MID) Son Heung-min

Didn't record a single shot, which tells you everything. He did show great hustle defensively.

4

(MID) Lucas Moura

Like Son, he never got into position to score. Didn't see much of the ball and was very limited when he had it.

4

(MID) Erik Lamela

Just a below average player playing for an average team. Long gone are those days of him being looked at as a future start of the Argentina national team. Predictable, and for all the moments he pulls off nice skill, he loses the ball double that.

3

(FWD) Harry Kane

Really quiet, mainly because the service to him was poor. Came close to scoring on a free kick in the first half.

4

(SUB 1) Moussa Sissoko

He played the second half and wasn't even noticeable. City's possession and quick passes kept him at bay.

5

(SUB 2) Dele Alli

Played 26 minutes, but City were dominating the ball, meaning he didn't get much of a chance to do anything with it.

5

(SUB 3) Gareth Bale

Bale came on off the bench and while he had one throwback quick footed moment to lead to a shot, the game was well over by then.

N/A

Manager Jose Mourinho

Daniel Levy's hand has to be approaching the panic button. Spurs don't look close to a top four team. Something has to change before it's too late.

Gundogan's injury looked like groin potentially. Not a good sign for City with UCL on the horizon.
