Fred Hoiberg's lived the past few years knowing he'd eventually need to have his chest cut open, again, and for his heart to be operated on -- again.
Hoiberg's NBA career, which spanned from 1995-2005, was cut short due to a problematic ticker. An aortic root aneurysm diagnosis in '05 meant his playing days were over. Hoiberg had his aortic valve replaced on Friday at the famed Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. It was his second open-heart procedure.
Per Iowa State's brief release, all is well. Dr. Rakesh Suri was in charge of the operation and said, via release, "Everything went very well. The operation was a success and Mr. Hoiberg is in recovery and doing very well himself."
On Monday afternoon, Hoiberg sent out this 12-second video from his Twitter account. It shows him on the slow road to recovery.

The amount of love, support and prayers for Fred and our family has been overwhelming. A heartfelt thank you to all!

Full recovery for Hoiberg is timelined at 4-6 weeks.
Hoiberg has been coach at Iowa State the past five seasons, taking the Cyclones to four consecutive NCAA Tournaments and amassing a 115-56 record.
