The 2021 college football season gets underway this weekend, and five games involving at least one FBS team are set to take place on Saturday. One of the more interesting matchups on tap is the non-conference battle between the Mountain West's Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the Pac-12's UCLA Bruins. One side is a big-time underdog, but could make things interesting at one of college football's most storied venues.

Kickoff at the Rose Bowl is set for 3:30 p.m. ET. UCLA is a 17.5-point favorite at Caesars Sportsbook, and the over-under is set at 67. Hawaii is a long shot at +900 (risk $100 to win $900) on the money line in the latest Hawaii vs. UCLA odds. Why Hawaii can cover

UCLA has struggled to cover the spread at home as of late. The Bruins have done so in just three of their last 10 home games at the Rose Bowl. That bodes well for Hawaii, which has won three straight home openers on the road.

UCLA did win two of its four home games by at least 17 points last season, but its games were decided by an average of nine points on the year. Hawaii is returning a total of 18 starters on both sides of the ball. Momentum and experience could carry the visitors to success.

Why UCLA can cover

Despite the overall struggles, UCLA has still moved the ball in the Chip Kelly era and seldom struggles to score. That makes the Bruins a threat to blow this game open. UCLA went 3-4 in 2020 but averaged more than 35 points per game. The Bruins aren't known for defense but held opposing teams to 10 points twice in four home games last season.

Hawaii lost two road games by more than 20 points last season and failed to score more than 10 points on both occasions. A slow start could lead to a long afternoon for the Rainbow Warriors.
