  • Lauvergne will start at center for Sunday's preseason matchup with the Nuggets, Paul Garcia of Project Spurs reports. The Spurs are giving Pau Gasol the night off for rest, which allows Lauvergne to pick up the start. He should see extended minutes Sunday, but will likely resume his normal bench role as soon as Tuesday's tilt with the Magic. Lauvergne is slated to start the upcoming campaign as the team's backup center, which should at least afford him a role in the team's regular rotation, though he likely won't be very valuable in the majority of fantasy leagues.

  • Lauvergne posted seven points (2-2 FG, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds, four assists and one steal across 17 minutes in Friday's 113-93 preseason win over the Kings. The athletic big man made a strong impression on the second unit for the second time in as may exhibitions, wit his work on the boards especially standing out Friday. Lauvergne is an intriguing asset for head coach Gregg Popovich to deploy off the bench, as he brings some floor-spacing ability in addition to his rebounding prowess. With both David Lee (free agent) and Dewayne Dedmon (Hawks) no longer in town, Lauvergne could carve out a solid frontcourt rotation role behind LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol as the season unfolds.

  • Lauvergne signed a two-year contract with the Spurs on Monday, Michael C. Wright of ESPN reports. Lauvergne split time with two different organizations during the 2016-17 campaign, as he was dealt from the Thunder to the Bulls at the end of February. Between the two teams, he played in 70 games and averaged 5.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.0 assist across 14.0 minutes per contest. However, after the Bulls opted to rescind his qualifying offer, he was officially sent to unrestricted free agency and will now sign with a championship contender in the the Spurs. With Dwayne Dedmon heading to the Hawks, and David Lee opting out of his contract, Lauvergne should provide some much-needed depth in the frontcourt at both power forward and center. Still, with Pau Gasol and LaMarcus Aldridge expected to be back in San Antonio, that should limit Lauvergne's overall upside as a fantasy option.

  • Lauvergne finished with 14 points (6-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist and one steal across 15 minutes during Thursday's 102-90 victory over the 76ers. Lauvergne jacked up 10 shots in just 15 minutes of action Thursday, draining six of his attempts on route to 14 total points. In the seven games since returning to the bench after securing a start March 22 against the Pistons due to Robin Lopez's one-game suspension, Lauvergne has averaged 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds across 14.4 minutes per game while knocking down 46.3 percent of his attempts from the field. Though he's a nice piece off the Bulls' bench, his numbers make him largely ignorable in the majority of fantasy formats. That being said, he can make for a solid option in DFS if he's due for extended minutes.

  • Lauvergne will move back to the bench for Friday's game agains the 76ers, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports. Lauvergne paid dividends for those who gambled on him in DFS lineups Wednesday when he was awarded the start in the Bulls' victory over the Pistons, as the third-year big man posted 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal in 28 minutes. However, it's unlikely he'll receive a real chance to build on that performance, since he'll presumably be in store for a steep reduction in playing time while heading back to the second unit with Robin Lopez returning from a one-game suspension. Lopez should take on the bulk of the minutes at center, but Lauvergne will function as his primary backup with Cristiano Felicio (back) due to miss his second straight contest.
