According to his agent Jason Davidson, Ferland's (head) No. 1 priority is his health and he has no desire to return to the game of hockey, Rick Dhaliwal of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports. Ferland's retirement had already essentially become official when he announced he didn't think he'd ever play professional hockey again in July of 2021, but this news can be taken as confirmation that he's played his last NHL shift. Ferland will end his career having racked up 60 goals, 134 points and 200 PIM in 335 games split between the Flames, Hurricanes and Canucks. He'll presumably remain on long-term injured reserve for the final year of his contract in 2022-23.... See More ... See Less

Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Moves to LTIR
Ferland (head) was placed on long-term injured reserve Monday, Thomas Drance of The Athletic Vancouver reports. Ferland's NHL career is likely over and this is just a paper move for Vancouver to work with its cap space. The 29-year-old forward hasn't appeared in a game since the 2019-20 campaign.... Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Essentially retired
When asked about his future, Ferland (head) stated "I am feeling better, I wish I could come back, but I know where I'm at now health-wise. No I don't think I'll play professionally ever again. Definitely no contact ever again, I need to take care of myself," Rick Dhaliwal of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports. Ferland suffered multiple concussions in 2019-20 before missing the entirety of the 2020-21 campaign, all but ending his professional playing career. The 2010 fifth-round pick will almost certainly remain on long-term injured reserve for the final two years of his contract rather than officially retiring, but he's played his last NHL shift. Ferland will end his career having racked up 60 goals, 134 points and 200 PIM in 335 games split between the Flames, Hurricanes and Canucks.... See More ... See Less -
Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Lands on LTIR
The Canucks have placed Ferland (head) on long-term injured reserve, Thomas Drance of The Athletic Vancouver reports. Ferland hasn't played since he suffered yet another head injury during last season's playoffs and at this point he's looking iffy at best to suit up at all in 2020-21. Vancouver should release another update on the 28-year-old winger if and when he's cleared to resume skating.... See More ... See Less -
Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Won't be ready for camp
Ferland (head) will not be with the team for the start of training camp, Rick Dhaliwal of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports. Ferland continues to deal with the effects of a concussion suffered back in October and appears no closer to getting back on the ice. At this point, the 28-year-old winger should be considered a near-lock for long-term injured reserve barring a drastic improvement in his recovery prior to Opening Night against Edmonton on Jan. 13.... Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Not cleared to play yet
Ferland (head) hasn't returned to 100 percent, as general manager Jim Benning told reporters, "If the season was to start right now, Micheal Ferland wouldn't be starting," Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650 reports. Since Nov. 1, 2019, Ferland has appeared in just four games for Vancouver, a stretch of 70 games on the shelf including the postseason. At this point, the winger could be headed for long-term injured reserve to start the season. Even if healthy for Opening Night, fantasy players should probably stay away from Ferland until he proves he can be the same 40-point producer he was from 2017-19.... See More ... See Less -

Ferland (undisclosed) will not be available for Game 7 against the Golden Knights on Friday, Thomas Drance of The Athletic Vancouver reports. Ferland will miss his 15th straight contest Friday -- he last played on Aug. 4 against the Wild. Ferland (undisclosed) won't play in Tuesday's Game 1 against the Golden Knights, Thomas Drance of The Athletic Vancouver reports. Before he returns to play, he'll need to self-quarantine upon rejoining the Edmonton bubble.... See More ... See Less -
Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Remains out
Ferland (undisclosed) will not suit up for Sunday's Game 1 with Vegas, Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650 reports. Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Still not available
Ferland (undisclosed) won't play in Wednesday's Game 5 versus the Blues, Farhan Lalji of TSN reports. There's been no reports of Ferland returning to the Edmonton bubble after leaving with an undisclosed injury. The 28-year-old should be considered out indefinitely until it is reported he has returned and he is in the process of his mandatory self-quarantine.... See More ... See Less -
Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Out for Game 3
Ferland (undisclosed) will not play in Sunday's Game 3 against the Blues, Thomas Drance of The Athletic Vancouver reports. There's still no update on Ferland who left the bubble due to an unknown injury. Unless he returned over the weekend to begin his self-quarantine unannounced, it's safe to rule him out for Monday's Game 4 contest, as well.... See More ... See Less -
Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Remains out Friday
Ferland (undisclosed) will not suit up for Friday's Game 2 contest against St. Louis. Ferland has now missed four straight games with his mystery injury and it's unclear when he'll be available to return. Because he left the bubble for injury-related reasons, he'll still need to self-quarantine before he'll be available to join the team.... See More ... See Less -
Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Unavailable Wednesday
Ferland (undisclosed) remains unfit to play in Wednesday's Game 1 versus the Blues, per coach Travis Green. Ferland missed the entire play-in series with Minnesota after leaving Edmonton to work on his recovery at home. It's been an injury-riddled campaign for the winger, as he has played in just four of the Canucks' last 61 contests. When in the lineup, the 27-year-old managed five points, 15 shots and 40 hits in 14 games this year.... See More ... See Less -
Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Out for remainder of play-in series
Updating a previous report, Ferland (undisclosed) will not play again in the Stanley Cup Qualifiers against Minnesota after being deemed unfit to play. The Canucks added that Ferland has headed home and will be evaluated again after the series with the Wild has concluded. He earned seven PIM and dished out five hits across 14:17 of combined ice time in Games 1 and 2.... See More ... See Less -
Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Departing Edmonton bubble
Ferland (undisclosed) will leave the NHL bubble in Edmonton for reasons related to his injury, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. Though a specific injury hasn't been designated for Ferland, he has a history of concussions and sustained some glancing contact to his head prior to leaving Tuesday's Game 2 against Minnesota after taking only four shifts. The NHL requires players to self-quarantine for a minimum of four days upon returning to the bubble, which rules Ferland out for the entirety of the play-in series against the Wild.... See More ... Canucks' Micheal Ferland: Leaves after first period
Ferland (undisclosed) did not play after the first period of Tuesday's Game 2 versus the Wild, Blake Price of TSN reports. It's unclear how Ferland got injured. He skated just 2:36 over four shifts in the contest. The winger battled with concussion-like symptoms for much of the 2019-20 regular season. Hopefully for Ferland, he's not battling another head injury. His status for Thursday's Game 3 is to be determined.... See More ... See Less -

Ferland was fined $5,000 by the league for spearing, Michael Russo of The Athletic reports.
