Caupain has been recalled from the G League.
Caupain has seen just 16 NBA minutes this season spread out across four games. It's unlikely that will change dramatically anytime soon.
Orlando transferred Caupain to the G League's Lakeland Magic on Monday.
Caupain will head back to the G League in advance of Lakeland's showdown Friday with the winner of the Westchester Knicks-Windy City Bulls series. The two-way guard has played almost exclusively at the G League level this season, logging only four appearances with Orlando.
Caupain finished Tuesday's blowout win over Windy City with 22 points (9-12 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Caupain and fellow two-way player Amile Jefferson combined to score 55 of the team's 141 points, with the majority coming in the first half of a contest that quickly got out of hand. Caupain has been a vital part of Lakeland's playoff-clinching roster, averaging 16.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.23 assists and 0.9 steals in 47 games.
Caupain was recalled from the G League's Lakeland Magic on Monday.
Caupain will presumably practice with Orlando on Monday, but it's unclear if he'll stick around with the parent club through its next game Tuesday in Philadelphia. Even if he suits up for contest, Caupain wouldn't be included in coach Steve Clifford's rotation and would be looking at little more than garbage-time minutes.
Caupain finished Friday's loss to the Stars with 22 points (8-18 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, two steals and one assist.
There's a possibility Orlando's two-way player could factor more into the team's plans towards the end of the NBA regular season, but for the moment Caupain is a legitimate threat at the G League level. So long as Caupain continues to soak up minutes (he played 40 on Friday), it's hard to fathom the combo guard struggling to put together production.
Caupain scored 21 points (9-14 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 0-0 FT,) and earned 10 assists, five rebounds and two steals in Lakeland's 131-120 win over Agua Caliente on Wednesday.
Caupain has been a model of consistency for Lakeland ever since joining the team last year. Averaging 16.6 points per game this season on a shooting average of 45.7 percent, Caupain has shown he knows how to give himself good looks at the basket while acting as a catalyst for the offense. In the first quarter, Caupain picked up five points along with his three assists before taking over the second quarter with seven points. Caupain didn't have a great fourth quarter, but he had already all but locked up the win for Lakeland, who remain in second place in the Eastern conference.
Caupain totaled 24 points (8-17 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 3-3 FT), four rebounds, three assists and two steals across 32 minutes Saturday against Fort Wayne.
Caupain led his team in scoring on the day, knocking down an impressive five of nine attempts from beyond the arc in a 107-92 victory on the road. The 6-4 guard continues to play at a high level across the board for Lakeland, posting averages of 17.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.0 steal through 26 starts.
Caupain has been assigned to the G League, Josh Robbins of The Athletic reports.
Caupain made his NBA debut Monday against Charlotte and logged five minutes while scoring five points. However, Caupain returns to the G League where he is averaging 16.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per outing.
Caupain played five minutes off the bench Monday in the Magic's 125-100 loss to the Hornets, finishing with five points (2-3 FG, 1-1 3Pt), two assists, one rebound and one steal.
Caupain has rarely suited up for Orlando this season, as the two-way player has instead spent the bulk of his time with the G League's Lakeland Magic. However, with all of D.J. Augustin (ankle), Jonathon Simmons (ankle) and Timofey Mozgov (knee) inactive for the contest, Caupain was included on the bench and made his long-awaited NBA debut in garbage time. The injuries to Augustin and Simmons don't appear to be long-term concerns, so it wouldn't be surprising if Caupain returned to the inactive list as soon as Wednesday in Chicago.
The Magic transferred Caupain to the G League's Lakeland Magic on Sunday.
Caupain, a two-way player, has yet to see any action at the NBA level and was likely just up with Orlando for a brief period to fit in some practice time. He's averaging 16.1 points, 5.6 boards and 4.9 assists per game for Lakeland this season.
Caupain tallied 17 points (6-15 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block across 28 minutes during Friday's 87-85 summer league loss to the Thunder.
Caupain was second on the team in points and assists Friday, contributing significantly to the offense. However, his four assists were dampened by his five turnovers. The Cincinnati product, who went undrafted in 2017, has had some success in summer league this season. Prior to Friday's effort, Caupain was averaging 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting 47.9 percent from the field.
Caupain produced 14 points (6-15 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 0-1 FT), eight rebounds and five assists across 28 minutes in Thursday's 75-70 playoff loss to the Jazz.
The Magic have already made a statement in professing their faith in Caupainas they signed the guard to a two=way deal on Tuesday, which guarantees he'll at least see some time in Orlando after spending last season with their G-League team. The undrafted Cincinnati product had a productive season with the Lakeland Magic, averaging 15.6 points and 7.6 rebounds across 50 games.
Caupain signed a two-way contract with the Magic on Tuesday, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
The Orlando organization is plenty familiar with Caupain, as he's currently playing for their summer league squad and also spent the 2017-18 campaign playing for the team's G-League affiliate, the Lakeland Magic. In 50 games with Lakeland, Caupain averaged 15.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.4 steals across 37.5 minutes. He also knocked down 43.2 percent of his field goal attempts and 34.5 percent of his three-pointers. While the 6-foot-4 guard could certainly use some added consistency with his shot, the Magic still like his upside and are willing to give him a two-way contract. That means Caupain will be able to spend up to 45 days at the NBA level with the Magic, while the rest of his time will be playing for the team's G-League affiliate once again.
Caupain provided 20 points (9-14 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), three rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes during Friday's 86-80 summer league victory over the Nets.
Caupain is no stranger to the Orlando organization, as he spent all of last season with the G-League's Lakeland Magic. He started all 50 games he appeared in, averaging 15.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.4 steals. Though he didn't do much for supplementary stats during Friday's game, he certainly flashed his scoring upside.
Caupain will join the Magic's summer league team, Clevis Murray of The Athletic Boston reports.
Caupain, a 6-foot-4 point guard, went undrafted in 2017 following a four-year stint at Cincinnati. He didn't appear in an NBA game last season, spending the year in the G-League with the Lakeland Magic. There, he started in all 50 of his appearances, averaging 15.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.4 steals in 37.5 minutes. He struggled with efficiency, however, shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from distance.
Caupain registered 12 points (4-10 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT), nine rebounds and four assists during Wednesday's 98-88 loss to the Greensboro Swarm.
The first year player from Cincinnati has been a reliable double digit scorer this season and Wednesday's performance was no different. Caupain is averaging 38.1 minutes of acting per game, as well as an impressive stat line with 15.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists for the Lakeland Magic.
Caupain was released by the Magic on Friday, John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com reports.
Caupain couldn't impress the coaching staff enough to warrant an NBA roster spot. He'll seemingly look for work in the G-League moving forward.
