  • Bruins' Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson: Qualifying offer on tap

The Bruins plan to retain their rights to Forsbacka-Karlsson by making him a qualifying offer, Eric Russo of the team's official site reports.

Forsbacka-Karlsson is slated to play in the Swedish Hockey League next season, but there is an expectation that the 22-year-old will resume his career with the Bruins at some point down the road. For now, the native of Stockholm will continue his development as a player in a strong league closer to home. Per Boston GM Don Sweeney, Forsbacka-Karlsson will "sit as a restricted free agent until he decides that he's ready to return." In 28 games for the Bruins this past season, Forsbacka-Karlsson logged three goals and nine points. The 2015 second-rounder profiles as a heady two-way forward who retains the necessary skills to secure full-time NHL duty eventually.

Forsbacka-Karlsson is slated to center the Bruins' fourth line Thursday against the Lightning.

The budding two-way pivot will be working with hard-shooting Ryan Donato and the rugged Noel Acciari, a trio that could bring some welcome energy to the Bruins' forward corps on the heels of Tuesday's flat effort in a 5-0 loss to the Panthers.

  • Bruins' Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson: Quickly called back up

Forsbacka-Karlsson was recalled from AHL Providence n Monday.

Well that was a brief return to the AHL for Forsbacka-Karlsson. The 21-year-old was sent down Sunday, and now he's already back up. Given that the Bruins only had 12 healthy forwards without him, and given that they have a game Tuesday against the Panthers, this recall wasn't surprising. However, the Swede has been a healthy scratch for Boston's last two games, so he may not get in the lineup.

  • Bruins' Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson: Shifts back to minors

The Bruins reassigned Forsbacka-Karlsson to AHL Providence on Sunday, Mark Divver of The Providence Journal reports.

Forsbacka-Karlsson was a healthy scratch for the last two games, but moving him to minors leaves just 12 healthy forwards on the Bruins' roster. Therefore, the 22-year-old may be recalled before Tuesday's game versus the Panthers, especially seeing how he centered the team's top line at one point during his stint with the big club.

  • Bruins' Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson: Opportunity knocks

Forsbacka-Karlsson is slated to center Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak when the Bruins take on the Penguins on Friday, Eric Russo of the team's official site reports.

Forsbacka-Karlsson had been seeing most of his ice time as the B's third-line center, but he'll get a shot to work on the top line Friday. The 22-year-old earned the promotion on the heels of scoring in back-to-back games. It's an assignment that gives Forsbacka-Karlsson appeal in daily formats Friday and if the move sticks, it could lead to a nice window of opportunity for the youngster, given that Boston's top pivot Patrice Bergeron (rib, sternoclavicular) is out for at least a few more weeks.

There's been no official word on Forsbacka-Karlsson's injury, though he did take a puck to the face earlier in the game that may have been the reason for him departing Wednesday's contest. Provided he doesn't return at some point in the game's final frame, expect the team to update his status following the game.

Forsbacka-Karlsson had been back home in Sweden tending to a personal matter, but he's back with the team now and available for upcoming games against Charlotte on Friday and Saturday. Forsbacka-Karlsson, who turns 22 on Wednesday, has logged a goal and four points in seven games to date and remains a candidate for a recall down the road. • Bruins' Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson: Away from AHL team, expected back Monday

Forsbacka-Karlsson is currently back home in Sweden tending to a personal matter, Mark Divver of The Providence Journal reports.

Per Providence coach Jay Leach, Forsbacka-Karlsson is expected to return to the Bruins' top affiliate Monday. In seven AHL games to date, Forsbacka-Karlsson has logged a goal and four points. The 21-year-old is on Boston's short list of call-ups and would probably be the player summoned if injuries hit either of the big club's current top three centers.

  • Bruins' Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson: Demoted Friday

Forsbacka-Karlsson was shipped off to AHL Providence on Friday.

Forsbacka-Karlsson was expected to compete for a spot on the 23-man roster for Opening Night -- possibly as the third-line center -- but a middling performance during training camp has him packing for the minors. The Swede should be able to earn his way into a call-up or two during the season.

  • Bruins' Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson: Doesn't stand out Wednesday

Forsbacka-Karlsson wasn't at his sharpest in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Wings, Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports Boston reports.

Forsbacka-Karlsson, who went 9-of-13 on his draws, didn't stand out much in the game, per Haggerty, which isn't optimal with regard to the 21-year-old's chances of locking down the Bruins' No. 3 center job. Other candidates for the role are fellow rookie Trent Frederic and returnee Sean Kuraly.

  • Bruins' Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson: Could land No. 3 center job

Forsbacka-Karlsson is making a case to open the season as the Bruins' third-line center, Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports Boston reports.

The spot is up for grabs following the free-agent departure of Riley Nash and Forsbacka-Karlsson has a solid chance to secure the role. Others in mix include Sean Kuraly, Trent Frederic and Jack Studnicka, but Forsbacka-Karlsson's strong two-way play and hockey sense could tilt things in his direction. In his first pro season, the 21-year-old logged 15 goals and 32 points in 58 games with AHL Providence in 2017-18. If he does make the Bruins out of camp, it may take some time for Forsbacka-Karlsson to make a fantasy splash, however, given that fellow pivots Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci are locked into top six/power play roles.
