Bruins' Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson: Qualifying offer on tap
The Bruins plan to retain their rights to Forsbacka-Karlsson by making him a qualifying offer, Eric Russo of the team's official site reports.
Forsbacka-Karlsson is slated to play in the Swedish Hockey League next season, but there is an expectation that the 22-year-old will resume his career with the Bruins at some point down the road. For now, the native of Stockholm will continue his development as a player in a strong league closer to home. Per Boston GM Don Sweeney, Forsbacka-Karlsson will "sit as a restricted free agent until he decides that he's ready to return." In 28 games for the Bruins this past season, Forsbacka-Karlsson logged three goals and nine points. The 2015 second-rounder profiles as a heady two-way forward who retains the necessary skills to secure full-time NHL duty eventually.

Bruins' Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson: Expected to sign overseas
Forsbacka-Karlsson intends to sign a contract with Vaxjo of the SHL for the 2019-20 season.
According to general manager Don Sweeney, Forsbacka-Karlsson "fully intends to resume playing" for Boston in the future, but for now, the 22-year-old forward will continue to develop in his native Sweden. The BU product has totaled nine points in 29 appearances with the Bruins since being selected by the team in the second round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Forsbacka-Karlsson was sent down to AHL Providence on Monday.
The 22-year-old had a point in back-to-back games before the All-Star break, but that wasn't enough to keep him from being sent back down to the AHL's Bruins. Forsbacka-Karlsson and Ryan Donato were both reassigned, with Peter Cehlarik and Trent Frederic called up in corresponding moves.

Well that was a brief return to the AHL for Forsbacka-Karlsson. The 21-year-old was sent down Sunday, and now he's already back up. Given that the Bruins only had 12 healthy forwards without him, and given that they have a game Tuesday against the Panthers, this recall wasn't surprising. However, the Swede has been a healthy scratch for Boston's last two games, so he may not get in the lineup.

Forsbacka-Karlsson is making a case to open the season as the Bruins' third-line center, Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports Boston reports.
The spot is up for grabs following the free-agent departure of Riley Nash and Forsbacka-Karlsson has a solid chance to secure the role. Others in mix include Sean Kuraly, Trent Frederic and Jack Studnicka, but Forsbacka-Karlsson's strong two-way play and hockey sense could tilt things in his direction. In his first pro season, the 21-year-old logged 15 goals and 32 points in 58 games with AHL Providence in 2017-18. If he does make the Bruins out of camp, it may take some time for Forsbacka-Karlsson to make a fantasy splash, however, given that fellow pivots Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci are locked into top six/power play roles.
