The Europa League final is set, and it will be competition kings Sevilla taking on AS Roma. Jose Mourinho's side will play their second European final in a row after drawing against Bayer Leverkusen 0-0 in the second leg of their semifinal on Thursday (1-0 aggregate). The Giallorossi won the first edition of the UEFA Conference League and now have the opportunity to replicate the success and win the Europa League for the first time in their history on May 31 at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
Sevilla needed the extra time to beat Juventus in the second leg of the semifinals after drawing 1-1 in Turin. The Bianconeri had a difficult start but also had some big chances with both Angel Di Maria and Adrien Rabiot but failed to score the opener early on. Thanks to some incredible saves by Wojciech Szczęsny, Sevilla conceded the first goal as Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic scored and everything seemed to be going in the right direction for the team coached by Massimiliano Allegri.
But it only took five minutes for the home side to score as former AC Milan striker Suso grabbed the equalizer. The game went to the extra time, and Sevilla scored the deciding goal of the game in the first half with former AS Roma player Erik Lamela, who will face his former club for the title. This was the seventh European semifinal success out of seven for the Spanish club, which will now have the chance to win their seventh Europa League, three years after the last time when they won against Inter in 2020.
AS Roma, as expected, played a full defensive match against Bayer Leverkusen, knowing they were coming from the 1-0 win in the first leg. The Giallorossi managed to draw the second leg despite Bayer keeping the ball for most of the game and having some chances to score, but Mourinho's team was always in control and had another impressive defensive performance against Xabi Alonso's side. The Giallorossi had zero shots on target (0.03 xG), while the home team had a total of 23 shots but failed to score.
It was definitely a historical night for Jose Mourinho and the whole club, as they managed to qualify for the second time in a row to a European final after winning the UEFA Conference League last season and now will have the chance to lift the UEFA Europa League trophy. Mourinho will manage his sixth European final as a coach after winning one Europa League with FC Porto, two Champions Leagues with both Porto and Inter, one Europa League with Manchester United and the UEFA Conference League with AS Roma. Mourinho is now the third manager to ever play six finals alongside Sir Alex Ferguson (6) and Giovanni Trapattoni (7). Against Sevilla, he will have the chance to make history again.
Sevilla need to keep the advantage in the last 15 minutes of the game...

Jose Mourinho made the first change at the halftime with Gini Wijnaldum who replaced Andrea Belotti. A defensive change for the Special One.

The home side demand a penalty after Juan Cuadrado's challenge, that seems to be inside the box. The referee doesn't believe so and the VAR didn't intervene as well.

Juventus scored the opening goal of the game with Adrien Rabiot, but it was offside. Still 0-0 then here.
Two more chances for the home side that are now pushing and trying to score the opener of the night. No issues so far for Szczesny, who needed to make two crucial saves to prevent Sevilla from scoring.
Incredible save by Juventus Wojciech Szczesny on Ocampos here, with the Polish goalkeeper who literally saved the ball on the line. Sevilla are really dangerous when they attack...
What a chance for the away side, as the header of Gatti was saved by Bono, who made an incredible save. Sevilla are playing much better, but the Bianconeri had the most important chance for now.
Both Sevilla and Bayer Leverkusen had a good start of the game and are trying to score the opening goal of the second leg. Juventus and AS Roma are defending and trying to wait more and play on counterattacks.

Sevilla: This season proved to be another struggle in the Champions League with then-coach Julian Lopetegui failing to survive the group stage and former boss Jorge Sampaoli returning to the club as they again finished third, a 3-0 home win against Copenhagen clinching that spot after they had fallen to earlier heavy defeats in Seville against Manchester City (0-4) and Dortmund (1-4). They drew in both Denmark (0-0) and Germany (1-1) before losing their Matchday 6 encounter 3-1 in Manchester. Sevilla's subsequent successes against PSV, Fenerbahce and Manchester United have earned them a record-extending fifth appearance in the UEFA Europa League semifinals, two more than any other club.
Juventus: This term Juventus made their 23rd UEFA Champions League group stage appearance but it turned out to be short lived as they failed to finish in the top two for the first time since 2013-14. Defeated twice by both Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica, they also traded wins with Maccabi Haifa but beat the Israeli champions to third place on goal difference. Three-time UEFA Cup winners in 1977, 1990 and 1993, the Bianconeri's fourth UEFA Europa League campaign has extended into the last four for the second time thanks to those successes against Nantes, Freiburg and Sporting with Adrien Rabiot scoring the decisive goal last time out in Lisbon.
Bayer Leverkusen: The German side had a disappointing UEFA Champions League campaign in Group B, failing to find the net in four of their six matches but edging through to the UEFA Europa League in third place with five points thanks to head-to-head superiority against Atletico de Madrid. They then needed penalties to eliminate Monaco in the knockout playoffs before cruising past Hungarian champions Ferencvaros with a pair of 2-0 wins, the second at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, the venue for this season's UEFA Europa League final. They then ousted competition debutants Union Saint-Gilloise in the quarterfinals, a 1-1 home draw followed by a 4-1 win in Brussels with goals from Moussa Diaby, Mitchel Bakker, Jeremie Frimpong and Adam Hložek.
AS Roma: Roma, who lifted their first UEFA trophy last spring after beating Feyenoord 1-0 in Tirana in the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League final, avoided a return to that competition by finishing as runners-up in UEFA Europa League Group C to Real Betis. Jose Mourinho's team then came from behind to beat Salzburg in the knockout playoffs before advancing to the quarterfinals at the expense of Real Sociedad. They made it to their third European semifinal in as many years by getting the better of Feyenoord again, a late strike from Paolo Dybala taking the tie into extra time, where further goals from Stephan El Shaarawy and Lorenzo Pellegrini clinched victory.
Despite conceding a last-minute equalizer in the first leg in Turin (1-1), UEFA Europa League specialists Sevilla's outstanding home form in the competition gives them the edge against Juventus as they bid to make it seven European semifinal successes out of seven.
Bayer Leverkusen must end a seven-match losing run against Italian opposition with a victory against Roma on Thursday if they are to retain hope of keeping the UEFA Europa League trophy in Germany.
