Manchester United vs. Tottenham score: Kane, Son help Spurs send Red Devils to historic defeat

It's one of the club's darkest days after getting manhandled

Manchester United suffered one of their worst defeats in club history on Sunday after being destroyed 6-1 at home against Tottenham. Spurs were lethal in front of goal while the Red Devils' defense didn't look fit for League Two, surrendering four goals in the first half of a Premier League game for the first time. Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son each scored twice in a match where United actually went up 1-0 after just two minutes. 

A red card to Anthony Martial in the 28th minute helped the flood gates open with Jose Mourinho beating a former Premier League club of his on the road for the first time in his career.

United were doomed them from the start

This was as bad of a performance defensively from a big club as I can remember. There was no cohesion, they were hanging their heads down and the effort wasn't there. It got so bad that Harry Maguire was bodying his teammate Luke Shaw in the box. That lack of focus saw them receive 22 shots, eight on frame and concede six times in what was one of their worst performances in club history. 

Just look at Luke Shaw, the right back, here. This came on Tottenham's fifth goal, and he is in the position of a midfielder instead of where he should be, leaving all of that space.

It doesn't get much worse. 

Tottenham appear to have turned the corner

They were absolutely brilliant. There is no doubt that this team has so much quality in attack, and it could get even better once Gareth Bale becomes available. Aside from just being clinical, they were on the same page and the awareness was off the charts. On the winning goal, Kane got fouled, and then he quickly restarted play, sending Son through. 

United's defense just wasn't ready for it.

Hot seat for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

What does this mean for United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer? Does he survive this? One would think yes because it's early on in the season, but what have players team shown that makes you think this team is going to challenge for much? Edinson Cavani coming in could help, but the defense is just so out of sync. More pressure had been added ahead of the transfer window closing on Monday.

This is a defeat that could have a lasting impact, and not only to form and momentum. United have some thinking to do when it comes to their coach and their players after a laughable display.
