The United States men's national team will face surprising Qatar in the Gold Cup semifinals on Thursday night, with a spot in Sunday's final on the line. The U.S. beat Jamaica 1-0 in the quarterfinals, while Qatar beat El Salvador 3-2, nearly blowing a 3-0 lead. This figures to be the red, white and blue's toughest test of the cup so far, with next year's World Cup hosts putting forward some fine performances.

Live updates: USMNT vs. Qatar

USA: This is far and away the most dangerous game they'll have in the competition aside from a potential final with Mexico. The U.S. may be 4-0-0, but three of the wins were shaky 1-0 victories. Against Qatar, they are going to need more than that in attack. Matthew Hoppe's goal and fight last time out was needed as the game appeared headed for extra time, but who will step up in this one? The defense must be a bit cleaner at the back, or they risk having to chase the match in the second half. Expect the defense to sit a bit deeper due to Qatar's speed, but in attack the U.S. will get their chances.

Qatar: Do not overlook this team. They are fully capable of beating the United States, especially if they can get off to a fast start. They have a bunch of players you may have never heard of, but they have speed, technical ability and a cohesion that makes them dangerous. Better than a lot of teams in Concacaf, they'll give the Americans a stiff test. The individual quality they have in attack means they are never out of it, but the defense has to be sharper than it was against El Salvador to advance.

The U.S. concede early, battle back and get through thanks to a Daryl Dike strike. Pick: USA 2, Qatar 1
