WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins and Jey Uso build momentum to WrestleMania 40

The weight belt was put to good use on the WrestleMania go-home show

The Bloodline got a taste of their own medicine on WWE SmackDown. Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins and Jey Uso took back control of momentum ahead of two highly anticipated nights of WrestleMania 40.

Rhodes and Rollins gave Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa a whipping on Friday night after the heroes suffered similar aches on Monday Night Raw. The cold-blooded display was followed by a stern message from Rhodes for his WrestleMania opponents. Rhodes, Rollins and Jey Uso all found some much-needed mojo ahead of the big weekend.

Much of SmackDown's focus was on promoting WrestleMania's undercard matches. One significant development was made to the weekend's lineup. Rey Mysterio found a compelling new tag team partner after a backstage assault forced Dragon Lee off WrestleMania.

The Bloodline pay for their leader's crimes

Jey Uso def. Solo Sikoa via disqualification after an attack by Jimmy Uso. It was a competitive match with Jey's speed meeting Sikoa's strength. The closing sequence saw Jey wiggle free of a Samoan drop before hitting a spear and splash.

Sikoa and Jimmy continued the attack post-match before Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins came to the rescue. Rhodes removed his weight belt so that he and Rollins could whip Sikoa and Jimmy with it. This was a direct response to The Rock and Reigns whipping their Night 1 opponents on Monday's episode of Raw. Jey punctuated the payback with an Uso splash to his twin brother. Rhodes cut a promo on his WrestleMania opponents to close the show.

The WrestleMania 40 go-home show was mostly a marketing effort. WWE tried to maximize their two hours to draw attention to as many undercard matches as possible. Naturally, there won't be a lot of story development one day out from a pay-per-view. It was nice having Rhodes and Rollins appear to set the tone for WrestleMania. Plus, whipping The Bloodline with Rhodes' weight belt was a nice follow-up to Monday when Rhodes and Rollins were victimized in the same way by Reigns and The Rock. It was far from the most compelling SmackDown this year but solid stuff. Grade: B

• Randy Orton and Kevin Owens laid out Logan Paul after a manhunt across the Wells Fargo Center and Lincoln Financial Field.
  
• Bronson Reed def. Ivar to win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The final four included Akira Tozawa and Otis.
• Mysterio, Carlito and Zelina Vega found Lee hurt backstage after a mysterious attack.
• Elektra Lopez def. Zelina Vega via pinfall after hitting the Elektra Shock. Andrade saved Rey and Vega from a post-match attack despite originally coming out with Lopez, Santos Escobar and Dominik Mysterio.
• Andrade stepped in as Rey's WrestleMania partner after Lee was deemed medically unfit to compete.
  
• Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair and Naomi cut a promo on Damage CTRL ahead of their match at WrestleMania.
• New Catch Republic (Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate) def. A-Town Down (Austin Theory and Grayson Waller) via pinfall after hitting a double burning hammer. Judgement Day attacked both teams post-match.
• LA Knight cut an in-ring promo on AJ Styles.
