2020 Big 12 Tournament canceled Thursday amid coronavirus pandemic concerns
The Big 12 was one of many conferences to bring a halt to its annual tournament on Thursday
The Big 12 Conference on Wednesday took the step to ban fans from its postseason men's basketball tournament beginning on Thursday over fears that the coronavirus pandemic could spread at the event. Then, shortly before the first scheduled game on Thursday in Kansas City, the league announced that the tournament -- along with all conference championships until April 15 -- would be suspended, meaning the men's basketball championship has officially been canceled.
The cancellation came in conjunction with the Big Ten, ACC, AAC, SEC, Pac-12 and Big East all cancelling their respective tournaments as well. The NBA on Wednesday suspended its season after one Utah Jazz player tested positive for COVID-19, and a second player on the same team tested positive for the virus on Thursday.
