It's been a good month for Tom Izzo.
The Michigan State coach was officially inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame last week, which he described as one of the "proudest and greatest" achievements of his life. Then, on Thursday morning, Izzo accepted a verbal commitment from Jaren Jackson -- a five-star Class of 2017 prospect from La Lumiere High in Indiana.
"I have an appreciation and respect for what every school and its basketball program has to offer," Jackson tweeted Thursday morning. "My decision is to continue my academic and athletic career at Michigan State."
Jackson is ranked 22nd in the 247Sports national composite rankings.
The 6-foot-10 forward picked Michigan State over reported offers from other Big Ten schools such as Purdue, Maryland, Illinois, Michigan and Indiana. He's the first Class of 2017 prospect to commit to the Spartans, who had the third-best recruiting class in 2016, according to 247Sports. Auburn currently has the top-rated recruiting class in 2017, according to 247Sports.
Michigan State finished 29-6 last season.
