Navy's quarterback depth reached a point against Fordham where a support staff member needed to run into the stands and find Malcolm Perry, dressed in his gameday whites, to get him in pads for the Midshipmen.

Senior quarterback Tago Smith, in his first start as the successor to Keenan Reynolds, went down with an injury early in the second quarter that has now been confirmed as a torn ACL. Third-string QB Zach Abey was suspended for a violation of team rules, so Navy was left without a backup quarterback against Fordham and had to pull Perry from the stands.

"I saw somebody running up the stairs really fast. I was looking at him because it was kind odd, and he was like 'Where's Malcolm, where's Malcolm?' I was like 'right here.' Then I went down to the field and got dressed," Perry said, via the Capital Gazette.

Senior Will Worth took over the offense but Perry, who played in the JV game on Thursday as well, saw action and finished with 30 rushing yards on seven attempts in the 52-16 win against Fordham. Smith's injury is expected to be season ending, so it's fair to say that Perry will be in pads on Saturdays from here on out.
