It seems as if the nightmare 2013 season has come to an end for TCU defensive end Devonte Fields. According to Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Fields will undergo surgery on his foot and seek a medical redshirt for the 2013 season.

Which is a move that makes sense for all parties involved.

After being named the Big 12's Defensive Freshman of the Year and making the All-Big 12 First team last season, 2013 hasn't gone quite to plan for Fields. He was suspended for the first two games of the season, and has been dealing with a foot injury throughout the season. Because of the injury and suspension he's only played in two games, making four tackles. Last season Fields finished with 53 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and an interception.

By having the surgery on his foot now and seeking the medical redshirt both Fields and the Horned Frogs can at least salvage a year of eligibility for what has become a lost season.
