Georgia Southern @ Texas State
Current Records: Georgia Southern 2-7; Texas State 3-6
What to Know
The Texas State Bobcats and the Georgia Southern Eagles are set to square off in a Sun Belt matchup at 3 p.m. ET Nov. 13 at Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium. The Bobcats will be strutting in after a win while Georgia Southern will be stumbling in from a loss.
The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks typically have all the answers at home, but last week Texas State proved too difficult a challenge. Texas State beat Louisiana-Monroe 27-19. The team accrued 20 points in the first half and coasted on those for the victory. Texas State can attribute much of their success to QB Tyler Vitt, who passed for one TD and 262 yards on 31 attempts in addition to picking up 37 yards on the ground, and RB Jahmyl Jeter, who punched in one rushing touchdown.
The Bobcats' defense was a presence as well, as it got past the Warhawks' offensive line to sack QB Chandler Rogers four times for a total loss of 17 yards. It was a group effort with three guys contributing.
Meanwhile, the Eagles ended up a good deal behind the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers when they played last week, losing 28-8. Georgia Southern was down 28 to nothing at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. No one had a standout game offensively for Georgia Southern, but TE Beau Johnson led the way with one touchdown.
This next contest is expected to be close, with Texas State going off at just a 2-point favorite. Those playing the odds have seen things go back and forth with the Bobcats, who are 4-4 against the spread.
Texas State's victory brought them up to 3-6 while Georgia Southern's defeat pulled them down to 2-7. Two defensive stats to keep an eye on: Texas State is stumbling into the matchup with the 222nd most touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 36 on the season. Georgia Southern has experienced some struggles of their own as they are 246th worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 24 on the season. It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
