Stecher scored a goal and an assist in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Islanders.

Stecher salvaged a point for the Canucks with a game-tying goal with 20 seconds left in the third period, skating in calmly from the blue line and wiring a shot past Thomas Greiss. The hometown kid has been one of the brightest spots for the Canucks this season, making the roster out of training camp and playing big minutes right away, becoming the second rookie to do so after Ben Hutton did it last year. It was Stecher's third two-point game this season, and while his totals -- 21 points in 57 games -- don't raise any eyebrows, keep in mind that he's just 22 years old and already averaging over 20 minutes per game as the team's preferred right-shot quarterback on the power play. He finished the game with a plus-2 rating with a hit and a blocked shot. The future is bright for the former North Dakota rearguard.
