The Phillies not only removed starting pitcher Kevin Correia from the starting rotation, they took him off the roster by designating him for assignment Tuesday.

The veteran right-hander did not have a good run with Philadelphia. He went 0-3 with a 6.56 ERA in five starts. He lasted only 3 1/3 innings Saturday against the Braves, allowing nine runs on 10 hits and two walks.

Severino Gonzalez will be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Correia's spot in the rotation and start Thursday against the Dodgers.
