John Danks: Will be released by Atlanta
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks will be granted his release by the Braves, Charlie Wilmoth of MLB Trade Rumors reports.

Danks inked a minor-league contract with the Braves in December and received the opportunity to audition for a rotation spot with the big club in spring training, but he was unable to beat out Mike Foltynewicz for the fifth starter role after getting lit up for seven runs on 14 hits and six walks over 9.2 innings in Grapefruit League play. The 31-year-old, who was out of baseball after being released by the White Sox last May, may need to prove himself in the minors with another organization before he gets another look at the big-league level. Danks hasn't turned in a sub-4.50 ERA in a season since 2011.

Braves' John Danks: Inks minor-league deal with Braves
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks signed a minor-league deal with the Braves on Monday, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Danks sat out most of the 2016 season following a release from the White Sox in May and will now look for a second chance with the Braves. He will likely work as starter depth for a Braves team inching toward contending, but his recent track record is mediocre enough that his fantasy value is negligible. The 31-year-old hasn't posted an ERA+ above league average since 2011, a year before undergoing shoulder surgery, and he holds a career 6.6 K/9.

White Sox's John Danks: Designated for assignment Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks declined his assignment to the minors Tuesday, electing free agency instead Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Danks was lit up in his first four starts of the season, posting a 7.25 ERA, 1.75 WHIP, and allowing five home runs over just 22.1 innings. Chicago will have to eat the remainder of his $15.75 million contract, but it appears they were ready to give up on the lefty. Erik Johnson is expected to join the big league team and slot into the rotation in his stead, while Danks should have the opportunity to land at least a minor league deal somewhere else.

White Sox's John Danks: Falters to 0-4 after shelling by Orioles
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks (0-4) pitched five innings, allowing six runs, nine hits and two walks while striking out four in Thursday's lopsided loss to the Orioles.

To say Danks has a rough start to his 2016 would be an understatement. After his first four starts, every peripheral suggests he is one of the worst pitchers in the league right now. One of the most glaring numbers is the drop in his fastball velocity which is at an average speed of 87.1 mph, well below any other time in his career. Danks' K:BB is terrible and he's been giving up home runs at a record pace. The 31-year-old lefty has a track record of getting it done in the majors, so it's possible he can turn this around, but many of the early performance indicators are extremely concerning, plus Miguel Gonzalez could be waiting in the wings for a rotation spot.

White Sox's John Danks: Moves to 0-4 on Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks allowed six runs on nine hits in five innings against the Orioles on Thursday to take his fourth loss of the season.

The O's tagged Danks for two home runs in this one, both of which came in a four-run fifth. He settled down a bit after that frame, but the damage was done. His hold on a rotation spot could be a bit more wobbly today if Miguel Gonzalez had thrown a good outing earlier in the week. Gonzalez did not, but the White Sox could have a lower level of tolerance for Danks' ineptitude if they remain in contention for the AL Central crown.

White Sox's John Danks: On track for next start Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks is scheduled to make his next start Thursday in Baltimore, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.

As it lines up, Danks' role in the rotation beyond that is uncertain, as the White Sox have an off day Monday before a home stand next week. Miguel Gonzalez's performance Monday night against Toronto may ultimately dictate the White Sox's plans for their veteran left-hander.

White Sox's John Danks: Walks five in loss to Angels
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks (0-3) put 10 men on base Thursday -- five hits and five walks -- but was able to limit the damage to two runs in a losing effort. He struck out just two.

Despite this outing meeting the requirements to be considered a quality start, it's hard to consider it that. Danks has been simply awful to start this year, as evidenced by his 6.23 ERA and 1.62 WHIP, and considering he's coming off four straight seasons with an ERA of 4.71 or higher, it's hard to imagine many fantasy formats where he's worth owning.

White Sox's John Danks: Struggles for second straight outing
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks (0-2) allowed five runs on six hits, including two home runs while also striking out four and walking three over 6.1 innings in a loss to the Rays on Saturday.

The left-hander has allowed five runs in each of his first two starts to begin 2016. Although he didn't give up a homer in his first outing, Danks was living a bit dangerously, recording 13 fly ball outs. It caught up with him Saturday versus Tampa Bay, as he tossed up bombs to Brandon Guyer and Brad Miller. Danks has allowed 1.36 homers per nine innings over the last three years.

White Sox's John Danks: Start pushed back a day
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks is scheduled to make his next start Saturday against the Rays, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Danks was originally slated to go Friday, but the club wants to keep Chris Sale on regular rest after a rain-out on Sunday. The White Sox could have skipped Danks' start entirely, so it should be seen as a positive that they did not. Danks has been the weak link in the team's rotation through one turn, but he likely has a fairly long leash before he gets pulled for someone like Miguel Gonzalez or Erik Johnson.

White Sox's John Danks: Battered in season debut against the Indians
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks was battered for seven runs (five earned) over five innings of a 7-1 loss to Cleveland on Friday afternoon.

He did strike out six - the good news - but eight hits and a walk in five innings, and 105 pitches (just 66 for strikes) will not make him a fantasy asset. He got off to a terrible start this spring but had a nice run of productive innings late. Unfortunately, that success didn't carry over into the regular season. He'll try to get back on track against the Twins in Minnesota next time out.

White Sox's John Danks: Six scoreless against Padres on Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks threw six scoreless innings against the Padres on Wednesday.

The outing pushed his scoreless inning streak to 11, and he has struck out 13 over that stretch. The outcomes of his starts are obviously less important than the length of them, and it is nice to see his starts last the expected number of innings. Danks entered camp with a strong hold on one of the team's final rotation spots, and nothing has happened to jar that assumption.

White Sox's John Danks: Not a great spring
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Danks has allowed 13 runs in 9.2 innings through three Cactus League starts.

Spring training stats do not matter much for a veteran like Danks, but there is also little to get excited about. Danks seems to be cemented in as the team's fourth or fifth starter, where he will be asked to do little more than eat a ton of innings.

White Sox starter John Danks (7-15) struggled on Thursday, allowing six runs on 11 hits and three walks while striking out two in a 6-4 loss to the Royals.
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

White Sox starter John Danks (7-15) struggled on Thursday, allowing six runs on 11 hits and three walks while striking out two in a 6-4 loss to the Royals.

It was an ugly outing for Danks, as he drew just two swinging strikes in his 92 pitches. Danks had not allowed more than three runs in his previous six starts and the regression is a bit disappointing to see in his final start of the season. Although this was in Kansas City, it's hard to be a flyball pitcher in a park like Cellular Field and Danks will need to adjust that a bit if he wants to avoid having outings like this next season.

White Sox SP John Danks takes tough-luck loss against Yankees
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

White Sox starter John Danks took the loss Saturday despite recording a quality start, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks over six innings while striking out five.

The White Sox hitters couldn't solve Adam Warren, otherwise Danks might have been better rewarded for his efforts. His final start of the season is scheduled for the season's final day, as he takes on the Tigers at home next Saturday.

by Sean D'Oliveira | CBS Sports Staff

Danks allowed one run on seven hits over nine innings of work. He also struck out five and walked one. He improved to 7-12 with a 4.60 ERA.

Danks has earned a quality start in four of his last six outings.

White Sox SP John Danks hit hard in loss to Mariners
by Elliot Smith | CBSSports.com

White Sox starter John Danks had a rough day at the office Sunday, getting shelled for seven runs as the Mariners jumped out to an early lead and held off a Chicago rally.

Danks wasn't around for that, as he departed after five innings in which he allowed eight hits and three walks. Danks also allowed his 18th home run of the season.

Danks (6-11) has dropped three straight decisions after a three-game winning streak.

White Sox SP John Danks takes loss in Tuesday's start
by Sean D'Oliveira | CBS Sports Staff

White Sox pitcher John Danks did not pitch horribly Tuesday against the Angels, but he took the loss during the 5-3 contest.

Danks allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits over seven innings. He also struck out three and walked one. His big mistakes were giving up a two-run home to Kole Calhoun in the first inning and a solo shot to Albert Pujols.

Danks is winless in his last three starts despite producing quality starts in two of those outings.

White Sox SP John Danks receives no-decision in Wednesday's start
by Sean D'Oliveira | CBS Sports Staff

Despite producing a quality outing Wednesday against the Angels, White Sox pitcher John Danks received a no-decision for his effort.

Danks allowed one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings. He also struck out two and walked three during the outing. The White Sox won 3-2 in extra innings.

Danks is winless in his last two trips to the mound despite earning quality starts in each.

White Sox SP John Danks merely average in falling to Royals
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

White Sox starter John Danks has either been very good or very bad since mid-June. So at least his mediocre performance Friday night in Kansas City was something different.

It wasn't, however, good enough to prevent his ninth loss in 15 decisions. Danks allowed three runs on five hits in six innings with three walks and six strikeouts.

He faced just one batter over the minimum through four before falling apart. A walk and Alex Rios double in the fifth ruined his shutout and three straight hits to start the fifth, including an RBI double by Lorenzo Cain and run-scoring single by Eric Hosmer, doomed him to defeat.

Danks lost a personal three-game winning streak in the process.
