The Chargers have around 10 players who are on the bubble to make the 53-man regular season roster.

They range from members of this year’s draft class to seasoned veterans. Injuries to WR Vincent Brown (broken ankle) and RB Ryan Mathews (broken clavicle) will complicate coach Norv Turner’s final roster decisions because he may have to keep extra players at their respective positions.

Jacques Cesaire (DE, 10th year, looking for a backup job) -- Cesaire, who is entering his 10th NFL season, has started 66 of 125 career games, all for the Chargers. He is an exceptional leader on the field, in the locker room and in the community. Listed as the second DE on the right side behind Corey Liuget, Cesaire, would likely be the second backup on both sides to rookie Kendall Reyes. Turner knows what he has in Cesaire, so there is very little Cesaire can do in the final two preseason games to improve his stock. It will simply come down to a numbers game. If Cesaire makes the cut, it will be because of his veteran leadership and his ability to play both sides.

Ladarius Green (TE, rookie, fourth round, 110th overall) -- Turner would like to protect Green on the 53-man roster. Green, 6-6, 240, needs to bulk up and greatly improve as a blocker. If Green makes the team, he would be the fourth TE. Turner may not have room for him if an extra RB and WR are kept. Green has practiced well, but has not caught a ball in preseason. This could be a sign that Turner is going to try to sneak Green on to the practice squad.

Roscoe Parrish (KR-WR, eighth season, spent past seven with Bills) -- Prior to the injury to Brown, Parrish (free agent, Bills) was an unlikely candidate to make the roster. Now Parrish will fight for the fifth receiver and possibly the kick returner job with incumbent Richard Goodman. Goodman is considered the fastest member of the team, but has not yet played in preseason. The last two preseason games will be critical for both players.
