GLENDALE, Arizona -- An incredible first half by Jalen Hurts has the Philadelphia Eagles up on the Kansas City Chiefs at halftime of Super Bowl LVII. Hurts became the first player to throw for a touchdown and rush for two touchdowns in the Super Bowl -- and he did it in the first half as the Eagles lead 24-14.
Both of Hurts' rushing touchdowns gave the Eagles the lead. He also connected with A.J. Brown on a 45-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter, his NFL-high 11th pass touchdown of 25-plus yards this season. Brown has eight touchdown catches of 25-plus yards this season -- the most by any player since the stat was first tracked in 2006.
Hurts is 17 of 22 for 183 yards in the first half for a 116.3 rating. He has 246 total yards in the first half.
Hurts hasn't been perfect in the first half, as he fumbled on a third-and-6 that led to a Nick Bolton 36-yard, scoop-and-score to tie the game 14-14. Hurts responded right back by leading the Eagles on a 12-play, 75-yard drive where they converted two fourth downs en route to his 17th rushing touchdown of the season -- the most by any quarterback in NFL history.
Hurts can become the second quarterback to win 17 games with 0 or 1 losses on the year and win the Super Bowl, joining Joe Montana (1984) in football greatness. His 17 wins would also be the most by any quarterbacks in one of their first three seasons in NFL history. He's on his way toward accomplishing the task.
