CARDINALS BEAT EAGLES, shake up everything

The Cardinals closed as 11.5-point underdogs, but that didn't matter! Kyler Murray, James Conner and Arizona battled all day, and with the game on the line, they delivered the game-winning touchdown drive with less than a minute to play. Then, needing a stop with just 32 seconds to go, Joey Blount intercepted Jalen Hurts' Hail Mary attempt to secure one of the biggest upsets of the season.

This result had massive implications for several reasons. To start, the 49ers clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC thanks to their win over the Commanders and the Eagles loss. Meanwhile, Philadelphia is now trailing the Cowboys in the NFC East with one game to play. If Dallas beats Washington next week, the Eagles will be the No. 5 seed. Finally, the Bears locked up the No. 1 seed in the 2024 NFL Draft thanks to the Cardinals win and the Panthers loss. Massive, massive result in Philadelphia.

8th straight AFC West title

Since 2016, the AFC West has belonged to the Chiefs. And while it got a little dicey this season, Kansas City did enough to beat out its division rivals and claim the crown once again. The clinching result was Sunday's 25-17 win over the Bengals in which Harrison Butker drilled SIX field goals, which allowed the Chiefs to come back from a 17-7 deficit. Andy Reid's team is certainly not as dominant as in years past, but with Reid, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, don't count them out in a winnable AFC.

Steelers stay alive, Rams clinch playoff spot

The Steelers are still alive in the playoff race, and the Rams couldn't be happier. Why? Because with Pittsburgh beating the Seahawks, Los Angeles (9-7) clinched a wild-card playoff spot in the NFC. Meanwhile, Mike Tomlin's team just wrapped up its 20th straight non-losing season, which is bonkers considering the parity in the league. The Steelers don't control their own destiny, but they'll get a Ravens team who has already locked up the No. 1 seed in the AFC and a first-round bye. My guess is they rest their starters, so if Pittsburgh can get that win, there's still a chance it could get back to the postseason.

Steelers 'D' comes up big

It's not just the offense that has delivered Sunday; the defense has had a few big plays, including rookie Nate Herbig not only strip-sacking Geno Smith but also recovering the fumble. The turnover led to a Steelers field goal that put them up two scores late in the fourth quarter.

Mahomes deep ball finally unlocked

It seems Patrick Mahomes and his receivers have not been able to connect on deep balls all season, including a few times Sunday. He finally connected on one at the end of the third quarter, as rookie Rashee Rice made the catch in stride and got all the way down to the Bengals 11-yard line. The 67-yard pickup was Kansas City's longest pass play of the season.

The Chiefs couldn't punch the ball into the end zone, but a fourth field goal from Harrison Butker gave them a 19-17 lead over the Bengals.

Umm Mecole Hardman?

You rarely, if ever, see this: fielding a punt from your own end zone. If Mecole Hardman did nothing, the Chiefs would have gotten the ball at the 25-yard line via a touchback. Instead, he caught the ball while backing up into the end zone, and he only managed to get to the nine. These are the types of mental mistakes you can't afford to have when you're in a close game.

Pickens does it again

George Pickens makes awesome catches; it's just what he does. Like this one against the Seahawks. (He also made a catch with his thighs(!), but I can't find the video anywhere.)

Diontae Johnson + Najee Harris = Steelers TD

The Steelers offense can't be stopped. The Seahawks opened the second half with a field goal, but Pittsburgh responded with a six-play, 71-yard drive. The big play was a 42-yard pitch-and-catch (and run) from Diontae Johnson, and on the next play, Najee Harris scored his second touchdown of the afternoon to give his team back the lead.

Pittsburgh offense rolling

The Steelers offense? Rolling?! I know, you didn't think you'd read that phrase earlier in the season, but it's true. After racking up 34 points on the Bengals, Pittsburgh has scored 17 first-half points in Seattle on Sunday.

Check out these stats:

  • 257 yards (145 rushing and 112 passing)
  • First downs: 14
  • Penalties: 1
  • Turnovers: 0

Who would have thought that Mason Rudolph would unlock the Steelers' attack? Also have to shout out Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, who each found the end zone in the first half.

Bengals handling Chiefs

It's been more of the same disappointment for the Chiefs on Sunday after a stunning loss to the Raiders on Christmas Day. Jake Browning and the Bengals have moved up and down the field -- scoring on all three possessions -- and currently lead, 17-7, after Jake Browning's scramble score.

Rams hold on

The Rams are one step closer to securing a NFC wild-card spot, but it was anything but easy. Up 26-19 midway through the fourth quarter, Los Angeles' punt team apparently forgot how to tackle, because no one could bring Gunner Olszewski down as he ripped and clawed his way to daylight before running free down the right sideline for the 94-yard score! After a Rams penalty, the Giants went for two and the lead, but Tyrod Taylor's flip pass was behind Saquon Barkley, who definitely would have gotten into the end zone. Rams stay ahead.

With a chance to close out the game, the Rams went three-and-out. And with a chance to stop the Giants offense, they allowed Taylor to lead them into field goal range. Fortunately for Los Angeles, it did enough to force a 54-yard field goal from 39-year-old Mason Crosby, who had just signed with the Giants last week amid injury woes at the position. His attempt went low and to the left, allowing the Rams to hang on for their sixth win in their past seven games.

Ravens wrap up AFC's No. 1 seed

The road to the Super Bowl in the AFC will go through Baltimore after its 56-19 demolition of the Dolphins on Sunday. Miami went up 7-0, but it was all Ravens from there, as Lamar Jackson threw five touchdowns and the defense intercepted Tua Tagovailoa twice. The Dolphins entered the game as the No. 2 seed in the conference, but now they'll play for the AFC East title next week versus the Bills. The Ravens, meanwhile, can rest their starters versus the Steelers and then enjoy their first-round bye.

Big-man TD

The Ravens all but wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the AFC after Lamar Jackson hit FULLBACK Patrick Ricard for the short touchdown with about 10 minutes to play in the game. With a 42-19 advantage, Baltimore will go to 13-3 on the season.

Kyren Williams hat trick

A lot of the talk surrounding the Rams involves Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp, Puca Nakua, Aaron Donald, etc. But since coming back from injury, Kyren Williams has been incredible for Los Angeles. He's the reason they have a 23-16 lead on the Giants, as he's scored all three of the team's touchdowns.

Eagles, Cardinals trading blows

Who woulda thought Eagles-Cardinals would be the game of the early window?! The Eagles went up 21-6, the Cardinals came back, the Eagles re-took the lead, and then the Cardinals again responded to knot the score at 28! On fourth-and-4, Kyler Murray found rookie Michael Wilson for the game-tying touchdown.

Purdy bounces back

It was a miserable performance from Brock Purdy on Christmas night against the Ravens, but he's rebounded in a big way against the Commanders. He's 20-for-26 for 218 yards and a pair of scores, and his most recent drive may have been his best of the day. Check out these two plays that helped San Francisco take a 27-10 lead.

Tyrod throws it deep

The Rams are one of the hottest teams in the NFL, but the Giants are giving them everything they can handle. Tyrod Taylor, who replaced Tommy DeVito on Christmas Day, found Darius Slayton for the 80-yard touchdown to pull New York within four.

🚨Christian McCaffrey injured🚨

One of the best offensive playmakers in the NFL this season has been on the sideline with a calf injury, and he's questionable to return. From several reports, the 49ers RB got the back of his lower right leg taped, but he has yet to return to the game.

HOW

In the box score, you'll see Justin Fields scrambled for a 13-yard gain in the third quarter against the Falcons. Watch the actual play, and you'll be amazed how Fields didn't get sacked. Chicago may draft a QB with the No. 1 pick, but that doesn't take anything away from how Fields has performed the second half of the year. He'll have a starting job somewhere next year.

Josh Allen trying to eclipse Jalen Hurts

Hurts set the NFL record on Christmas Day with his 15th rushing score of the season, and now Josh Allen has tied that mark thanks to two rushing scores against the Patriots on Sunday afternoon.

Cardinals giving Eagles all they can handle

The Eagles appeared like they'd run away with this game up 21-6, but the Cardinals have come roaring back. First Michael Carter, then James Conner caught touchdowns from Kyler Murray to get the Cardinals back in the game. It's now tied after Arizona's successful two-point conversion.

Etienne to the house!

The Jaguars, after three first-half field goals, were in desperate need of a big play to take full control against the Panthers. Travis Etienne turned out to be the man for the job, as his 62-yard score put Jacksonville ahead 16-0.

Lamar's MVP moment

Lamar Jackson became the MVP favorite after the Ravens' shellacking of the 49ers, and he's doing everything he can to hold on to that title against the Dolphins. Here's his first-half stat line: 12 of 14 passing, 255 yards and three scores -- one each to Justice Hill, Zay Flowers and Isaiah Likely. After going down 7-0, the Ravens take a 28-13 lead into the break.

One-handed INT

The Dolphins rushed to get one more play off before the two-minute warning. It backfired in a big way. Tua Tagovailoa tried to hit Cedrick Wilson Jr. over the middle but threw into a crowd, and Roquan Smith made him pay with a sweet one-handed interception to give the Ravens the ball back.

Stafford --> Kupp = TD

One of the best QB-WR duos is at it again. Matthew Stafford to Cooper Kupp for the score to put the Rams ahead by seven over the Giants.

Julio Jones x2

Oct. 18, 2020: That's the last time then-Falcons star Julio Jones scored two touchdowns in a game. More than three years later, Jones has another two-touchdown game, this time as a member of the Eagles. The 34-year-old has scored twice in the first half as Philadelphia has a big lead over Arizona.

Ravens cooking on offense

Lamar Jackson has 10 completions ... for 219 yards and two touchdowns. That's more than 20.0 yards per completion! Zay Flowers is mostly responsible for that gaudy average, as he just caught a deep ball from the Ravens QB and took it all the way for the 70-yard score. Baltimore up 21-13 on Miami.

ZappINT

OK, so it's a little bit of a stretch with that name, but Bailey Zappe is an interception machine right now. He's got three in the first half, the last of which Rasul Douglas returned for a 40-yard touchdown. It marked his second pick of the game.
