  • Simon Despres: Signs with English club

Despres agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Nottingham Panthers on Monday, per BBC Nottingham.

Despres played in 193 NHL games for the Penguins and Ducks, registering six goals and 37 assists along the way, but has been playing in Europe for the last five years. Selected by Pittsburgh with the 30th overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the 32-year-old blueliner never really lived up to his billing when he came out of the QMJHL.

  • Simon Despres: Staying in DEL

Despres agreed to terms on a one-year contest with German club Eisbaren Berlin, Seth Rorabaugh of TribLive.com reports.

Despres appeared in just 19 games for the Polar Bears, logging three goals and seven helpers. Concerns over his concussion history led, in part, to the blueliner's departure from the NHL but that hasn't stopped him from continuing his career overseas. Selected by the Penguins with the 30th overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, Despres generated six goals and 37 assists in 193 NHL games for the Penguins and Ducks.

  • Simon Despres: Headed back to Europe

Despres agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Kolner Haie (DEL) and will return to Europe, where he spent the 2017-18 campaign.

After failing to earn a contract with the Habs during training camp. Despres signed a minor-league deal with AHL Laval, but will make the move to Germany for the rest of the season. The 27-year-old played in just five games for the Rocket in which he tallied two points, four PIM and a minus-2 rating. At this point, Despres has probably logged his last NHL game, having logged 193 outings and 43 points in stints with the Penguins and Ducks.

  • Canadiens' Simon Despres: Offered minor-league deal

Despres has been offered an AHL contract by the Montreal organization.

While it's better than no contract, a minor-league-only deal would not allow Despres to be called up during the season -- although the team could still sign and promote him down the road -- which is likely why the defender is looking into his options. Invited to camp on a tryout, it is a little surprising to see the team not pursue at least a two-way deal for the veteran considering it will be without Shea Weber (knee) and David Schlemko (knee) for Opening Night and beyond.

  • Canadiens' Simon Despres: Likely headed to Laval

The Canadiens are expected to sign Despres and send him to AHL Laval, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette reports.

Despres was in Montreal's camp on a professional tryout and apparently did enough to warrant continued interest. He had been a top-four blueliner for Anaheim before suffering a concussion one game into the 2016-17 season. He skated for Bratislava Slovan of the KHL last year.

  • Canadiens' Simon Despres: Signs PTO

Despres will link up with the Canadiens on a professional tryout agreement for training camp.

After logging just one game in 2016-17 while with the Ducks due to a concussion, Despres went over to the KHL last year. While with Bratislava Slovan, the blueliner notched 11 points in 44 games, along with a concerning minus-13 rating. With Shea Weber (knee) out long term, the Habs are probably trying to see what Despres has left in the tank. If there is even a glimmer of his former talent, they will likely keep him around to help shore up the lineup.

  • Simon Despres: Heading overseas

Despres agreed to terms on a one-year contract with HC Slovan Bratislava of the KHL on Thursday.

Despres appeared in just one contest all of last season after suffering a concussion. One has to wonder whether NHL clubs were hesitant to give him a look due to concerns over his history of head injuries. In any case, the blueliner will head to Europe for the first time in his six-year professional career.

  • Simon Despres: Waived for purpose of buyout

Despres (head) was waived by the Ducks on Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports. If the defenseman goes unclaimed, he'll be bought out of his remaining four-year contract.

Despres missed all but one game of the 2016-17 campaign with a concussion. Per NHL rules, a player must receive medical clearance in order to be waived. If the 25-year-old is picked up off waivers, Anaheim will be free and clear of his $3.7 million cap hit. Otherwise, it will save $2.4 million against the cap in 2017-18 and would actually receive a cap credit in the following two years. Assuming there aren't any lingering concerns about his concussion history, the blueliner could be picked up by another club -- although likely not until after the buyout is complete given his inflated price tag.

  • Ducks' Simon Despres: Out again Sunday

Despres (head) won't suit up for Game 6 on Sunday in Edmonton.

Despres continues to watch the game from afar and it's unclear at this point when, or even if, he'll be able to play during the playoffs. Expect more updates on his status once he resumes practicing with the team.

  • Ducks' Simon Despres: Still waiting for return

Despres (head) wasn't out for warmups ahead of Game 5 on Friday, per Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register. This is a clear indication that he won't play.

Despres has only managed to play in one game all season, and that was the Oct. 13 season opener. He was taken off injured reserve in late April, but the Ducks aren't about to throw him into the fire in the middle of a tough playoff series.

  • Ducks' Simon Despres: Taken off injured reserve

Despres (head) is no longer listed on injured reserve, per the NHL's official media site.

While there's no guarantee that Despres will be ready to go when the Ducks open the second round of the playoffs against the Oilers, his removal from the ranks of the IR seems to suggest that he could be ready for Game 1. The 25-year-old has not suited up since being knocked out of action during the first game of the season, so even if he is able to go soon, there's a chance he'll be dealing with some rust as he gets readjusted.

  • Ducks' Simon Despres: Dealing with serious injury

Despres could miss an extended period of time due to his head injury, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports. Ducks' general manager Bob Murray characterized the situation as a "very sensitive issue."

The overall tone when discussing Despres' ailment on Tuesday was very somber and seemed to imply that he could be dealing with a head issue similar to what players like Marc Savard have dealt with in the past. Hopefully it isn't as serious as that, but either way we wouldn't expect to see Despres on the ice anytime soon.

  • Ducks' Simon Despres: Lands on injured reserve

Despres (head) is on injured reserve, per the NHL's official media site.

Despres is believed to be dealing with a concussion, and the veteran defender has no timetable for his return to game action. However, per league rules, he'll be eligible to return once healthy, assuming the placement on IR is retroactive to his first and only game played this season -- Oct. 13 against Dallas.

  • Ducks' Simon Despres: Returns home after visiting specialists

Despres (head) has returned to Southern California after visiting specialists on the East Coast and remains without a timetable to return, the Orange County Register reports.

Despres exited last Thursday's contest with the upper-body ailment, and it sounds as though it could be a concussion. It's a bit concerning, as general manager Bob Murray suggested that it may be a recurrence of the issues he went through last season. Considering he's back home, it's safe to rule him out for Thursday's contest, and it's quite possible the blueliner will miss time beyond that.

  • Ducks' Simon Despres: Remains out Tuesday with possible concussion

Despres (upper-body) is out for Tuesday's contest against New Jersey, Eric Stephens of OCRegister.com reports.

Despres suffered the injury on Thursday and it is now reported that he could be dealing with concussion-like symptoms. If it's confirmed that the blueliner did indeed sustain the ailment, he could be sidelined until November as the swelling in his head subsides. In the meantime, Jacob Larsson figures to see an uptick in his ice time on Anaheim's second defensive line.
