  • Daniel Catenacci: Will play in Austria

Catenacci signed a contract with HCB Bolzano of the Austrian Hockey League.

A versatile skater who can play on the wing or down the middle, Catenacci will refine his game overseas. Now 25 years old, he failed to record a point over 12 games between the Sabres and Rangers, but the feisty one has accumulated 52 goals, 61 assists and 232 PIM over 307 AHL appearances.

  • Rangers' Daniel Catenacci: Headed back to AHL

Catenacci was demoted to the team's AHL affiliate Thursday.

Catenacci has dressed for just one game this season in the NHL and has yet to tally a point despite drawing into 12 career NHL contests. He's posted better numbers in the AHL this season, but the 24-year-old seems unlikely to become a consistent contributor at the top level given his pedigree and track record thus far in his career.

  • Rangers' Daniel Catenacci: In Saturday's lineup

Catenacci will be in the lineup for Saturday's matinee in Colorado.

Catenacci will get a chance to make his Rangers debut because Michael Grabner is out with the flu. The 24-year-old forward has failed to mark the scoresheet in 11 previous NHL appearances, all with the Sabres during the 2015-16 campaign.

  • Rangers' Daniel Catenacci: Promoted to big club

The Rangers recalled Catenacci from AHL Hartford on Friday.

Kevin Hayes (bruise) won't play Saturday and is considered questionable for Sunday's clash with the Kings, so Catenacci will round out the Rangers' depth up front until Hayes is given a clean bill of health. The 24-year-old forward has notched two goals and 10 points in 23 contest with AHL Hartford this campaign.

  • Rangers' Daniel Catenacci: Staying in Big Apple

Catenacci earned a new contract with the Rangers after tallying nine points in 19 outings with AHL Hartford, TSN reports.

Catenacci was brought in via trade last season in a minor-league swap. The center managed just five goals and eight helpers in 50 contests with AHL Rochester, but seems to have hit his stride with the Wolf Pack. Odds are the 24-year-old will spend the bulk of the upcoming campaign in the minors, but could get the occasional call-up due to injury.

  • Rangers' Daniel Catenacci: Traded to Rangers

Catenacci was traded to the Rangers from the Sabres on Tuesday in exchange for fellow minor leaguer Mat Brodie.

Catenacci makes his way over to a new club for the first time in his career after being drafted by Buffalo in 2011. The 23-year-old forward has played in 50 games for AHL Rochester this season, putting up marginal offensive stats -- five goals and eight assists. He's not likely to be one of the first call-ups for the Rangers, but even if he is, don't expect him to snag a top-six role anytime soon.

  • Sabres' Daniel Catenacci: Cut from camp, headed to AHL

Catenacci and 16 others have been cut from camp and sent to AHL Rochester, The Buffalo News reports.

Catenacci was disappointing in his second pro season, scoring just 12 goals with a minus-20 rating in 50 games with Rochester and failing to register a point in 11 games with the Sabres last year. The gritty, two-way winger still lacks size and consistency, which has been an ongoing issue since he turned pro after a very impressive major junior career. The cut should come to no surprise since Catenacci was facing an uphill battle for a roster spot, but a top-six role should be waiting for him in Rochester. The Sabres signed him to a one-year extension this past summer, and will give him another chance if he plays well.

  • Sabres' Daniel Catenacci: Secure one-year, two-way extension

Catenacci signed a one-year, two-way contract extension with the Sabres on Friday, the Olean Times Herald reports. The deal is worth $575,000 at the NHL level and $85,000 in the AHL.

Catenacci lacks size, but the guy can fly down the ice and sees the ice well. He failed to impress in 11 games with Buffalo last season, having gone pointless in 11 games with a minus-2 rating, though Catenacci did tack on 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) in 50 matches with AHL Rochester. The 23-year-old seemingly needs more polish, and the two-way aspect of his contract will allow him to bide his time in the minors at a lower cost to the Sabres organization.

Catenacci picked up no points and a minus-2 rating in his 10 games with the Sabres. Catenacci isn't a big scorer, but does have 20 points in 41 AHL games. The former third-round pick is likely a bottom-six option sliding between the NHL and AHL for the foreseeable future.

  • Sabres' Daniel Catenacci: Promoted from AHL Rochester

Catenacci was called up from the minors Tuesday, reports John Vogl of The Buffalo News.

Catenacci was re-assigned to the AHL following a concussion suffered against Philadelphia, and this call-up is a sign that the feisty winger is now 100 percent and ready for a second audition. After a stellar major junior career Catenacci has gradually found his footing in the pros. He will be a game-time decision Tuesday against the Oilers when they visit Buffalo.

  • Sabres' Daniel Catenacci: Assigned to AHL

Catenacci has been re-assigned to AHL Rochester.

With Ryan O'Reilly (illness) and Evander Kane (suspension) expected to play Friday, there was no room for Catenacci in the lineup, who returned to full practice Thursday after suffering a concussion on Feb. 11 against the Flyers. The feisty winger has improved over the years, even if a little bit slowly, and will be one of the first call-ups from Rochester along with Justin Bailey should the Sabres need another body.

  • Sabres' Daniel Catenacci: Returns to practice

Catenacci returned to the ice for the first time since Feb. 11.

Catenacci was the victim of a devastating hit by Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas, who caught Catenacci reaching for the puck with his head down at center ice. Catenacci was a full participant in Thursday's practice, but has not been activated from the injured reserve and is doubtful for Friday's game against Columbus. He filled in for Ryan O'Reilly (illness) at practice in a top-six role, and while the measure is only temporary with O'Reilly expected to play Friday, it is quite indicative of how highly the Sabres think of Catenacci.

  • Sabres' Daniel Catenacci: Placed on injured reserve

Catenacci (head) has been placed on injured reserve, Joe Yerdon of NHL.com reports.

Already ruled out Friday, Catenacci can now be safely be ruled out for the team's next two games as well. Even when healthy, the 22-year-old winger averaged just 8:36 of ice time and failed to record a point after being recalled by the Sabres on Feb. 5, numbers that don't make him valuable from a fantasy perspective. The placement on IR could indicate the youngster is dealing with a concussion, which would in turn leave him with a rather open-ended timetable, but nothing's been confirmed on that front. The Sabres recalled Phil Vatrone to take his place in the lineup for the time being.

  • Sabres' Daniel Catenacci: Out with injury

Catenacci will not play Friday against Montreal, reports Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald.

Catenacci took a big hit from Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas on Thursday, and had to undergo concussion protocol afterwards. He was clearly dazed after the hit, and although there has been no official word, it's suspected that Catenacci has a concussion. The Sabres will call up another player from AHL Rochester to fill his spot against the Habs. There is no timetable for his return thus far.

  • Sabres' Daniel Catenacci: Undergoes concussion testing

Catenacci had to go through concussion protocols Thursday after getting a hit to the head, reports John Vogl of The Buffalo News.

Catenacci was on the receiving end of a brutal hit by Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas, who caught him with his head down. Catenacci got tangled up at center ice in a puck race with Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and clearly didn't see the hit coming. He skated off the ice on his power, however clumsily, and did not play in the remaining 3:33 of the game. There has been no official word on Catenacci's status, so consider him day-to-day for now.

  • Sabres' Daniel Catenacci: Called up from minors

Catenacci has been recalled from AHL Rochester.

Catenacci was Buffalo's third-round (77th overall) draft selection in 2011. While he has yet to debut in the NHL, an appearance with the parent club could be imminent since Sabres forwards Tyler Ennis (upper body), Marcus Foligno (lower body) and Cody McCormick (blood clots) are all currently injured. Catenacci is known for his quickness and on-ice vision. He tore it up offensively in the OHL between 2008-13, notching 108 goals and 145 assists between the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Owen Sound Attack. Since then, he's had some trouble against tougher competition in the AHL -- Prior to his call-up, Catenacci registered seven goals and nine helpers, but also went minus-13 in 36 games for the Americans.
