  • Vadim Shipachyov: Officially signs KHL deal

Shipachyov signed a one-year deal with the KHL's SKA Saint Petersburg, Igor Eronko of Sport-Express reports.

After an incredibly brief NHL stint, Shipachyov officially retired from the league, went back to Russia and signed with his former KHL club -- all in the last three days. It seemed that the Golden Knights could never find room for the 30-year-old forward on the roster, and he certainly wasn't happy with an AHL assignment. This move should just about put an end to his NHL career.

  • Vadim Shipachyov: Makes retirement official

Shipachyov officially retired from the NHL on Thursday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.

Shipachyov's North American career has finally come to a conclusion. Last season's leading scorer in the KHL, the pivot arrived in Vegas amidst much fanfare but was never really given a chance to prove himself in the world's best hockey league. Upon his retirement, Shipachyov is now eligible to join a KHL franchise immediately -- which he is expected to do. Vegas owns Shipachyov's NHL rights for the next five years, making a potential return to the NHL highly unlikely.

  • Vadim Shipachyov: Will retire from NHL

Shipachyov will retire from the NHL, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Shipachyov's voluntary retirement will enable him to return to his native Russia and sign with a team in the country's premier hockey league, the KHL. The Golden Knights believed they were landing an elite talent when they inked the 6-foot pivot to a two-year, $9 million contract in May, but the team was strangely unwilling to give him time to adjust to playing in the NHL, and instead opted to ship him to their minor-league affiliate, a move Shipachyov was understandably not happy with. He can be dropped in all fantasy formats.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Nearing end to contract mess

The NHL and NHLPA have settled on a solution to Shipachyov's contract dispute with the Golden Knights, and an official announcement is expected to be made Monday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.

The impasse between Shipachyov and Vegas stems from the Russian's refusal to report to AHL Chicago, which is the minor-league affiliate of the expansion franchise. It will be interesting to see what the league has decided because the last we knew Shipachyov wanted his contract terminated so he can return to playing in the KHL.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Still in limbo regarding contract saga

Shipachyov (suspension) has returned to his native Russia, but he technically remains under contract with the Golden Knights, Sportsnet reports.

According to this latest report, Shipachyov will not be able to latch on with a KHL team until he fills out retirement paperwork with the NHL. Alternatively, the Golden Knights could terminate his contract, as requested by the player himself, but that would force the Golden Knights to engage the process of unconditional waivers. Essentially, the two sides are playing a game of chicken to see who gives in first after the Russian superstar failed to report to AHL Chicago, the expansion franchise's top development affiliate. Fantasy owners can safely cut bait on Ship as it doesn't look like he'll be of service to any NHL club this year -- if ever again.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Will return to Russia

Shipachyov has decided to return to the KHL and has opted to terminate his contract, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.

With Shipachyov growing more frustrated by the day with how his playing time has been handled by Vegas, he'll reportedly return to Russia after his contract is terminated by the team. After the termination, he'll still have to go through an unconditional waiver process, but it seems he'd rather return to the KHL than sign a deal with another North American team. The 30-year-old was projected to slot in as Vegas's top center in its inaugural season, but after being sent down to the minors for the second time last Tuesday, Shipachyov requested a trade and skipped an AHL game. Expect an official announcement in the next couple days once the transaction is complete.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Handed suspension

Shipachyov was suspended after leaving AHL Chicago without permission, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.

The highly regarded offseason signee has already been sent down to the AHL twice, scored an NHL goal, and has been given permission to seek a trade in addition to his suspension during his short time in North America. Engels also notes in his report that if Shipachyov isn't traded by Monday, the player could see his contract terminated, which would make a return to his native Russia quite likely. This is certainly a situation to watch closely.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Skips AHL game with Vegas affiliate

Shipachyov is returning home to Vegas to be with family rather than playing out a scheduled game with AHL Chicago on Saturday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The plot thickens here, as Shipachyov was granted permission to seek a trade from the expansion club after appearing rather disgruntled by the team placing him at the minor-league level. While this is mere speculation, Shipachyov skipping out in this latest AHL game leads us to believe that a deal could get done soon enough in order for Vegas GM George McPhee to continue focusing on the franchise's ridiculous 8-1-0 start and the players that helped make it happen.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Granted permission to seek trade

The Golden Knights have given Shipachyov's agent permission to talk to other NHL teams regarding a potential trade, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.

There was plenty of hype surrounding Shipachyov and his potential in Vegas heading into the 2017-18 campaign, as he was electric in the KHL a season ago, racking up 76 points (26 goals, 50 assists) in 50 games with St. Petersburg SKA. The 30-year-old forward's owners were probably scratching their heads when Shipachyov was assigned to the minors before Opening Night, but they were able to breath a sigh of relief when he was recalled to the big club prior to the Golden Knights' second game of the season. Shipachyov has appeared in three contests since his promotion, potting a single goal while posting a plus-3 rating over that span, but he was pretty clearly outplayed by other forwards on Vegas' roster, which led to his second demotion to the AHL on Tuesday. The Golden Knights signed the Russian pivot to a two-year, $9 million deal this offseason, which could make shipping him to another NHL club a difficult task. If his agent isn't able to find a suitable partner for a trade, Shipachyov could opt to return to Russia and finish the 2017-18 campaign in the KHL.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Sent back to minors

Shipachyov was returned to AHL Chicago on Tuesday.

This could draw the ire of Golden Knights fans, as Shipachyov is one of the most highly skilled offensive players belonging to the expansion franchise. However, Jonathan Marchessault (lower body) is on the verge of returning to action, so a roster spot needed to be relinquished by someone. Vegas has to be careful about how it handles the former KHL superstar, as GM George McPhee has already had to quell rumors that the 30-year-old was interested in returning to his home country.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Bags goal in debut

Shipachyov tallied the game-winning goal in Sunday's 3-1 victory over Boston.

The 30-year-old KHL transplant also finished with a plus-2 rating while playing 10:26 Sunday, centering a line with Alex Tuch and Brendan Leipsic on the wings. On Shipachyov's goal, Tuch made a beautiful feed across the crease for the Russian to bury, and the play made it seem as though these guys have already developed some solid chemistry.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Tentatively set to debut Sunday

Shipachyov is expected to make his NHL debut Sunday versus the visiting Bruins, Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Rumors had surfaced that the prolific Russian playmaker was unhappy about beginning the season in the AHL and was looking into the possibility of returning to the KHL, but Golden Knights GM George McPhee disputed such a notion. However, we wonder how long it would've taken the expansion club to call him up had Erik Haula (undisclosed) not been sent to injured reserve Saturday. Regardless, it's worth giving the 30-year-old center a speculative look in all fantasy formats. Shipachyov has plenty of experience with SKA St. Petersburg in his native country, including a 2016-17 campaign that included 26 goals, 50 assists and a plus-33 rating over 50 regular-season games, and another 19 points in 17 playoff contests en route to his second championship in the past three years.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Apparently not bound for KHL

Despite initial reports, Shipachyov (undisclosed) is not looking to return the Russia, according to general manager George McPhee.

Shipachyov's agent also denied these reports per Darren Dreger of TSN. The 30-year-old was expected to start the season as the top-line center but was instead sent down to the minors -- although, according to Nick Cotsonika of NHL.com, Shipachyov is not currently with his minor-league club as he recovers from an undisclosed ailment. Needless to say, this is a situation that fantasy owners will want to closely monitor moving forward.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Eyeing KHL return?

Shipachyov (undisclosed) is allegedly unhappy with his assignment to AHL Chicago and is looking to find a way back to Russia, KHL insider Aivis Kalnins reports.

While this isn't the biggest surprise, it's bad news for Vegas. It seemed odd for Shipachyov not to make the Opening Night roster, and he's clearly not happy with his role in the organization. The 30-year-old forward has apparently set himself a timeline to return to the NHL, otherwise it sounds like he'll consider heading back to his home country and rejoin SKA Saint Petersburg of the KHL. This scenario would also allow him to partake in the Olympics.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Will begin season in AHL

Shipachyov (undisclosed) was left off of Vegas' Opening Night roster and will start the year with AHL Chicago, Sean Shapiro of NHL.com reports.

This move certainly comes as a surprise, as the former KHL star was once thought to be centering the Golden Knights' first line. The 30-year-old was wearing a non-contact jersey in practice just last week, so it's possible that this roster designation is injury related. Shipachyov was among KHL scoring leaders last season with 76 points in 50 games.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Assigned to AHL

Shipachyov (undisclosed) was sent to AHL Chicago on Tuesday.

This should be a temporary move, as Shipachyov will likely be in the lineup for Friday's opener against Dallas, according to Steve Carp of the Las-Vegas Review Journal. The 30-year-old former KHL star will make his NHL debut this season and likely center a scoring line for the Golden Knights. Fantasy owners shouldn't worry much about this news.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Sporting non-contact jersey

Shipachyov was in a non-contact jersey at practice Friday, Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Shipachyov figures to be the Golden Knights' first-line center once he is healthy, an arrangement his fantasy owners will no doubt be hoping for come Opening Night in Dallas. The 30-year-old has spent his entire professional career playing in Russia and could take some time adjusting to the North American style of play and smaller ice sheets.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Disappoints in debut

Shipachyov failed to record a point in Tuesday's 4-1 preseason win over Colorado.

The Russian star's debut was disappointing -- in addition to failing to get a point, he wasn't able to put a shot on goal and won just 22 percent of his draws. One game is a tiny sample size, so it would be rash to assume that Shipachyov won't have success in 2017-18, but it may point to the him having some growing pains adjusting to the North American game.

  • Golden Knights' Vadim Shipachyov: Debut set for Tuesday

Shipachyov will make his NHL preseason debut Tuesday night against the Avalanche, Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

The 30-year-old Russian became the second player in Golden Knights history when he signed in early May. A gifted playmaker, Shipachyov's 2016-17 saw him post 26 goals, 50 assists and a sterling plus-33 rating with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL before helping his squad to its second championship in the past three years; he also won the Gagarin Cup in 2015. Based on his supreme offensive skill set, it's well worth queuing him up in fantasy drafts as a possible late-round flier.
