When it comes to Atletico Madrid's chances of advancing to the Round of 16 in the 2021 UEFA Champions League, Los Colchoneros control their own destiny. That starts with taking a win from AC Milan on Wednesday before facing FC Porto in their last match of the group stage. Atletico beat Milan in their reverse fixture on September 28, but both teams find themselves at the bottom of Group B ahead of their match this week. You can see what happens this week when you stream the match live on Paramount+.

UEFA Champions League picks for Atletico Madrid vs. AC Milan

Before you tune in to Wednesday's match, you need to see the AC Milan vs. Atletico Madrid picks from SportsLine's proprietary European soccer model. Created by two Norwegians -- professional poker player and sports bettor Jonas Gjelstad, and economics and engineering expert Marius Norheim -- the model analyzes worldwide betting data and exploits market inefficiencies, helping its followers cash in. Since coming to SportsLine last year, the algorithm is up over $8,500.

For Atletico Madrid vs. AC Milan, the model is projecting the match to go over the 2.5 goal total, which returns -115 odds. Five of Atletico's last seven matches across all competitions have done just that, and three of Milan's last six have as well. AC Milan comes into Wednesday looking out of sorts, after it fell behind early to Fiorentina 3-0 and lost 4-3 on Saturday in Italian Serie A.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic did what he could to get AC Milan back into the match, with two goals within five minutes of each other. But Dusan Vlahovic's goal in the 85th minute iced things for Fiorentina. Ibrahimovic wasn't available in AC Milan's last meeting with Atletico and is still searching for his first Champions League goal this year. He has 48 Champions League goals in his career, which is 10th most all-time, and should be looking for the goal on Wednesday with Milan's back against the wall.

Diego Simeone's focus on Atletico's attack has come at the cost of conceding goals in recent matches. When Atletico took the field with four defenders on its back line most recently in La Liga play against Osasuna on November 20, it won 1-0. In its five prior league matches, Atletico has put in 12 goals, but with a three-man back line. Simeone deployed four defenders against AC Milan in their last meeting and the score still came out 2-1.
