USMNT star Clint Dempsey, who missed some time with the Seattle Sounders after being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat at the end of August, has returned to training with his MLS club, according to the Seattle Times.

The report says Dempsey underwent an 'unspecified procedure,' but that the club is optimistic he could return to action this season.

Obviously it is great to see Dempsey back practicing, but at this point it is tricky to tell what his status is for World Cup Qualifying. The red, white and blue play Mexico on November 11 in the first match of the final round of qualifying. But before that, the U.S. has two friendlies, one on Oct. 7 at Cuba and the other on Oct. 11 against New Zealand. Dempsey, at this point in time, probably won't be called up for those matches.

The 33-year-old has been the best player for the national team over the last couple years, leading the team in goals at the Copa America this past summer and finishing top scorer of the entire 2015 Gold Cup. With him, the team is more direct, clinical and creative in attack, and there is no doubt that with him the team is better. But only time will tell if he appears again for the U.S. in 2016.
