WWE Raw results, recap: Dominik Mysterio successfully defends NXT North American title against Sami Zayn

The Judgement Day member got some help from his faction to hold on to his crown

With SummerSlam drawing near, the intensity among the WWE universe is ramping up. That momentum continued on Monday night with the latest episode of Raw.

The show saw Dominik Mysterio put in position to make an unexpected defense of his newly-acquired NXT North American championship against one half of the undisputed WWE tag team champions, Sami Zayn. Thanks to the help of his Judgment Day brothers and sister, Mysterio was able to pull off the win and retain his title.

Judgment Day's good night did not end there, however. The group again showed their dominance to close the show as Finn Balor and his team took out world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins after Balor and Rollins signed the contract for their title match at SummerSlam.

What happened on WWE Raw?

• NXT North American Championship -- Dominik Mysterio (c) def. Sami Zayn via pinfall with a roll-up. After Judgment Day opened the show bragging about their success and introducing Mysterio as the new North American champion after his win on NXT, the group was interrupted by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, leading Zayn to challenge Mysterio to put his belt on the line. Mysterio picked up the win when Zayn was distracted by the rest of Judgment Day attacking Owens backstage.
• Becky Lynch def. Zoey Stark via pinfall after a Manhandle Slam. Trish Stratus attempted to interfere to keep Lynch from winning and earning a one-on-one match with her, but Lynch was able to overcome the interference to score the pin.
• Cody Rhodes cut a promo on Brock Lesnar, saying his mother knew Lesnar made a mistake during his attack last week because he left Rhodes breathing. Rhodes promised to "embarrass" Lesnar at SummerSlam, saying he will close this chapter and has no issues with poking the bear. Instead, he was slapping the bear across the face.
• Bronson Reed def. Tommaso Ciampa via pinfall with a splash.
• Alpha Academy cut a promo on Viking Raiders that included Chad Gable congratulating the Raiders on their win in the Viking Rules match and challenging them to an "Academy Rules" match. Maxxine Dupri said she wanted Valhalla in her first one-on-one match. Valhalla accepted the match later in the night.
• Logan Paul accepted Ricochet's challenge for a match at SummerSlam after jumping Ricochet during a promo. After the attack, Ricochet fought back and put Paul down with a shooting star press before taking a selfie with Paul's downed body. Later, Paul said he would be at Raw next Monday looking for revenge on Ricochet.
• Damian Priest def. Apollo Crews via pinfall with South of Heaven.
• Drew Mcintyre def. Ludwig Kaiser via pinfall with a Claymore. Before the match, McIntyre challenged Gunther to a match but Gunther declined, saying he'd elevated the intercontinental championship to a level where instead the match should be at SummerSlam. McIntyre then said that Ludwig Kaiser should be the actual leader of Imperium, leading to the match.
• Finn Balor and Seth Rollins signed the contract for their SummerSlam match for Rollins' world heavyweight championship. Of course, things broke down into a fight, with Priest hitting Rollins with the Money in the Bank briefcase before Sami Zayn ran in to try and make the save. But Judgment Day took him out and the show ended with Priest hitting Rollins with a Razor's Edge before a frog splash from Mysterio and a Coup de Grace from Balor.
