With Fastlane on Sunday, WWE SmackDown was largely built around the main event of Edge taking on Jey Uso with the winner having the right to serve as special ringside enforcer for the universal title match between champion Roman Reigns and challenger Daniel Bryan. In the end, it was Edge who was able to come out with his hand raised, but the night did not end on a positive note for the WWE legend.

Edge took a spear from Reigns after his victory over the champ's cousin. Bryan wanted to get his hands on his Fastlane opponent, but also found himself laid out after Uso aided the champ in getting the upper hand to end the show.

CBS Sports was with you all night bringing you recaps and all the highlights of all the action from inside the ThunderDome.

Edge wins Fastlane enforcer role

Edge was interviewed backstage, quickly saying he doesn't hold Daniel Bryan hitting him with a running knee last week, because it's exactly what he would have done. He also said his intention is to make sure he beats Uso to become special guest enforcer at Fastlane because it's the only way Bryan will have a fair shot when he faces Roman Reigns at the event. Bryan was out later to cut a promo, vowing to make Reigns tap out at Fastlane, which drew out the champion to say he would lose his arm before he tapped out to any man and would rather die in the ring than tap to someone like Bryan. Bryan said that whether Reigns taps out or not, he will win at Fastlane.

Edge def. Jey Uso via pinfall after hitting a spear. Uso took the attack to Edge's ribs early, putting the legend on the defensive for much of the match. Edge managed to battle through the injury -- which was visibly showing as his torso was covered in welts -- to attack the shoulder of Uso and eventually hit the spear to lock down the special enforcer role for Bryan vs. Reigns at Fastlane. After the match, Edge stared down Bryan at the commentary table, only to turn around into a spear from Reigns. Bryan then went to confront Reigns in the ring, but was attacked by Uso, allowing Reigns to hit a spear as the show went off the air.

Reigns and Bryan have great chemistry on the mic and their dueling promos were a highlight of the show. It's feeling more and more like Bryan may sneak his way into the WrestleMania match, which would not be a bad thing as we've seen the chemistry continue to emerge between all involved. Edge held up his side of the match with Uso, once again proving he still has plenty to offer in the ring. All told, these segments were all successful. Grade: B+

Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair find mixed success

SmackDown Women's Championship -- Sasha Banks (c) def. Nia Jax via pinfall to retain the title. The show opened with a backstage argument between Banks and Bianca Belair, with Belair asking why Banks decided to defend her title just days ahead of their challenge for the tag team titles at Fastlane. Belair told her WrestleMania opponent to not expect her to come and make the save when Banks faced Jax. After a hot start by Banks, Jax took the match over until Belair's music hit and she made her way to ringside. Shayna Baszler inserted herself in the match and when Belair chased her into the ring, it allowed Baszler to try and get in a cheap shot. Instead, her kick went wrong and she landed to Jax's face, allowing Banks to score a jackknife pin for the win to retain her title.

Bianca Belair vs. Shayna Baszler ended in a no contest after both women were attacked by Tamina and Natalya. Baszler demanded the match to try and make up for her screw up earlier in the night. Things had barely gotten started before the run-in brought the match to a close.

It was a welcome change to not have Reginald involved this week, but Belair and Banks should be far more focused on each other with their WrestleMania match drawing closer. The match will be great, but as a storyline, it just feels like this easy-on-paper feud has been mishandled at every turn. Now, they're not only dealing with Jax and Baszler, but also Natalya and Tamina. The heat just is not there like it needs to be between the two. Grade: C
