Junior point guard Terrence Phillips is no longer a member of Missouri's basketball team, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on Tuesday.
Phillips, a two-year starter who moved to an off-the-bench role this season, was suspended indefinitely last month when the school's Title IX office launched an investigation after receiving complaints from four women alleging physical abuse, nonconsensual recording of a sexual encounter and stalking. All four accusers are Missouri students.
In an interview with the Kansas City Star last month, Phillips said he expected to be cleared in the investigation.
"There are two sides to every story," Phillips said. "Some people really want to say 'Me too' because apparently it's the cool thing to do. I have a side. I am cooperating with Mizzou like I was instructed. Unfortunately I can't say a lot, but at the end of the investigation, I intend to be cleared from the accusations. People who know me know this isn't me."
Phillips averaged 7.6 points and 3.4 assists a game in his career at Missouri.
Although his absence will be a blow to Missouri's overall depth, it likely won't affect the Tigers much this season. Under Cuonzo Martin, they're chugging along on the path to an NCAA Tournament berth and are a projected 7 seed in Jerry Palm's latest Bracketology.
