What to Know

The #21 Xavier Musketeers will be returning home after a two-game road trip. Xavier and the #17 Providence Friars will face off in a Big East battle at 6:30 p.m. ET Wednesday at Cintas Center. The teams split their matchups last year, with the Musketeers winning the first 74-73 at home and Providence taking the second 83-68.

The game between Xavier and the Marquette Golden Eagles on Sunday was not a total blowout, but with Xavier falling 75-64 on the road, it was darn close to turning into one. One thing holding Xavier back was the mediocre play of guard Nate Johnson, who did not have his best game: he played for 31 minutes but put up just five points on 2-for-11 shooting.

Meanwhile, the Friars beat the Butler Bulldogs 69-62 on Sunday. Four players on Providence scored in the double digits: center Nate Watson (18), guard Aljami Durham (12), guard Jared Bynum (10), and forward Ed Croswell (10).

The Musketeers are the favorite in this one, with an expected 8.5-point margin of victory. Those sticking with them against the spread have guts, to put it politely, as the squad has let down bettors in their past four games.

Providence's win lifted them to 16-2 while Xavier's defeat dropped them down to 14-4. In their victory, the Friars relied heavily on Nate Watson, who had 18 points in addition to seven rebounds. Xavier will need to find a way to minimize his impact if they want to win.
