No. 1 -- QB: Ash vs. McCoy, part II. Although sophomore David Ash took the Horns' reigns for their Holiday Bowl win over California and seems to be the leader as Texas gets into its second week of spring workouts, junior Case McCoy will – again – have a chance to make his statement and earn playing time. Coach Mack Brown wants two players for each position, but it would be best to have one guy the Horns can rely on. No. 2 -- DT: Dorsey vs. Whaley vs. Moore. With Kheeston Randall headed for the NFL and Calvin Howell gone after an arrest for marijuana possession, the Horns will be looking to find two impact players to man the middle. Juco transfer Brandon Moore has been impressive in the early drills, and returners Ashton Dorsey and Chris Whaley (both juniors) will have their opportunities. No. 3 -- TE: McFarland vs. Grant. Texas hasn't had an impact player at the position since Jermichael Finley left after the 2007 season as the spot, which is crucial in co-OC Bryan Harsin's scheme, was manned by committee last year. FreshmanM.J. McFarland is up to about 260 pounds on his 6-6 frame after redshirting last season, and offseason reports have him taking huge strides forward. He and senior D.J. Grant, who made his share of plays in 2011, should make a solid tandem.
