Oregon State got some bad news Wednesday morning when coach Mike Riley announced that freshman offensive lineman Garrett Weinreich will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.

Weinreich was injured Monday night when he planted his left leg and his foot got stuck in the turf, causing his knee to twist. Initially trainers thought he would be out only two weeks, but an MRI Tuesday afternoon revealed more severe damage.

Riley said Weinreich didn't tear his ACL -- a common and devastating injuries among athletes -- but that his injury was "more of a knee-cap deal with a lot of cartilage involved."

Weinreich was expected to be in the rotation of OSU's top 10 linemen, the group that travels with the team, so his loss hurts the club’s depth, particularly because he can play both guard and tackle.
