When Tua Tagovailoa showed up at Alabama in January, early word out of Tuscaloosa was that the five-star quarterback from Hawaii looked good enough to have an immediate impact if needed. Returning starter Jalen Hurts, the reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Year, was expected to keep his job but the hype around Tagovailoa reached a fever pitch by the end of fall camp.
Alabama's blowout against Vanderbilt allowed Tagovailoa to get plenty of work, checking into the game early in the third quarter. In one half of action, he put together a game's worth of highlights, including this insane touchdown toss (his second of the game) after spinning away from Vanderbilt defenders.
