Romero was claimed off waivers by the Twins on Monday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Romero was designated for assignment by Washington last week, but he'll now compete for a spot in the Twins' bullpen ahead of the 2022 campaign. The right-hander mainly pitched at the Double-A and Triple-A levels in 2021, and he posted a 2.62 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 55 innings across 38 relief appearances. He got his first taste of major-league action by making five relief appearances for the Nationals late in the season. If Romero joins the Twins' major-league bullpen at some point in 2022, he's unlikely to have a high-leverage role.
