    • Shackelford finished the season with a 4.85 ERA across 29.2 innings pitched for the Reds. Shackelford became one of the more reliable relievers for the Reds toward the end of the season, picking up two holds in his last six appearances. The right-hander pitched well in his last 13 outings, earning a 1.38 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP. His success down the stretch has given him a chance to pitch in some high-leverage situations next season.

    • Reds' Kevin Shackelford: Returns to majors
      By RotoWire Staff

Shackelford was recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Saturday. The 28-year-old returns for his second stint in the majors, replacing Zack Cozart (quad) on the roster. Shackelford spent just three days with Cincinnati after being called up in late June, but his numbers at Louisville this season (1.53 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 61:18 K:BB, 12 saves) suggest he's probably deserving of a longer look.

    • Reds' Kevin Shackelford: Optioned to Triple-A
      By RotoWire Staff

Shackelford was sent back down to Triple-A Louisville on Friday. Just three days after coming up for the first time, Shackelford will head back to Louisville as Zack Cozart returns from a stint on the DL. During his lone appearance against the Brewers on Thursday, Shackelford gave up four earned runs off five hits including two home runs in 2.2 innings of work. He has pitched extremely well at the Triple-A level this year (0.82 ERA), and will likely get more big-league opportunities this summer.

    • Shackelford had his contract purchased from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Shackelford has impressed this season out of Louisville's bullpen, compiling a 1.53 ERA, 46 strikeouts and 11 saves in 35.1 innings (27 appearances) before being promoted to the big club. The 28-year-old will join the Reds' bullpen, where he will likely start out pitching in lower-leverage situations. Austin Brice was optioned to Triple-A to clear room on the active roster, while Jake Buchanan was DFA'd to open a spot on the 40-man for Shackelford.

    • Shackelford signed a minor league deal with the Reds on Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The 27-year-old had a solid season in 2016, posting a 2.30 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP with Triple-A Louisville. Shackelford doesn't possess very good peripherals, though (3.78 FIP, 20:13 K:BB), so he'll likely head back to being an organizational depth piece once spring training concludes.
