European Tour Expert Picks: Scottish Open

The John Deere Classic will be fun, I'm sure, but the real golf action this week is taking place across the pond at the Scottish Open.

Here's a little mini-preview of the Open Championship warmup.

The Scottish Open will be held this year at Royal Aberdeen which you can see in the video above is quite a spectacular track. It held the 2011 Walker Cup and is one of the oldest courses in the world. You can read more about that here.

The Daily Record humorously says Royal Aberdeen will play much tougher than Castle Stuart, where the Scottish Open has been held the last three years.

"Royal Aberdeen, however, is an entirely different kettle of fish."

I laughed.

The tournament will take place July 10-13 and the purse is $5.1 million.

You can watch on Thursday and Friday (July 10-11) on Golf Channel from 5:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday (July 12-13) on Golf Channel from 9:30 a.m. - noon and on CBS from noon - 2:30 p.m.

Expert picks

Rickie Fowler (33-1): This is Fowler's first time to play the Scottish Open but he's fared well at the British Open in the past. Coming off his performance at Pinehurst I think he's a smart play at 33-1.

Lock for top 10

Rory McIlroy (12-1): I'm not sure there's a true lock in this field on such a testy course and I'm hesitant to pick Rory given that he just missed the cut at the Irish Open but with my life on the line I have to go with him as the surest golfer to finish inside the top 10.

Jeev Milkah Singh (250-1): After finishing T38 at the Irish Open Singh missed his last two cuts before coming to this tournament. Then again, he won this thing in 2012 and at 250-1 he's a great longshot play.
