Jeff Walters: Released by Rays
The Rays released Walters on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The 29-year-old toiled away to the tune of a 5.89 ERA with the Mets' Triple-A Las Vegas team in 2016, and the Rays didn't find a spot for him in their organization after they inked him to a minor-league deal. Walters may catch on somewhere else as organizational depth.

Rays' Jeff Walters: Signs minor league deal with Rays
Walters agreed to a minor league deal with the Rays on Sunday that includes an invitation to spring training, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Walters had spent the past seven years of his professional career climbing the minor league ranks within the Mets' organization. He posted 5.89 ERA over 56 games with Triple-A Las Vegas last season and will look to put together a solid spring training performance with the hopes of cracking a major league roster for the first time in his career.

Mets' Jeff Walters: DFA'd by Mets
Walters was designated for assignment by the Mets on Tuesday.
As such, Walters will be removed from the 40-man roster in order to add James Loney, who was recalled to the major league ranks Tuesday. Walters, who's remained at Triple-A Las Vegas this season, will be subject to waivers, but it's unlikely he'll be claimed considering he's allowed 23 earned runs on 38 hits in 22.1 innings on the year.

Mets' Jeff Walters: Added to 40-man roster
Walters was added to the 40-man roster Friday.
Walters missed the first half of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery, but ended up impressing in a limited stint with Double-A Binghamton to the tune of a 1.96 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 18.1 innings. He should get the chance to progress to Triple-A in 2016.
