As the New York Jets cleaned out their lockers on Monday, they also processed the news the team had fired general manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Tannenbaum, who joined the organization in 1997, was elevated to general manager in 2006.

Tannenbaum addressed the team in their final meeting, but players declined to specify his comments.
Center Nick Mangold described it as "emotional." Quarterback Mark Sanchez called it "heartfelt."
"I wish Mr. Tannenbaum the best of luck," Sanchez said. "Great family. They've always been good to me."
Cornerback Kyle Wilson was pragmatic. "I took it as news. I understand in the NFL everything is a business move."
Rumors had been percolating for a while that changes would be made to the organization. But, of course, nothing is ever certain until it happens.
"When you have a disappointing season like this, things are going to change. You kind of expect it, but it still stings," Mangold said.
Though owner Woody Johnson announced on Monday morning coach Rex Ryan would be retained, the team cancelled his season-ending press conference that had been scheduled for Monday afternoon. No explanation was given.
In addition, there have been reports that the team plans to fire offensive coordinator Tony Sparano. According to Sanchez, Sparano was in the building on Monday morning. It has also been speculated that defensive coordinator Mike Pettine will depart following a report that
he turned down a contract extension earlier in the season.
Once the Jets get their front office and coaching staff sorted out, they will need to turn their attention to the players. The Jets have many significant players who will be free agents including, safety Yeremiah Bell, defensive lineman Brandon Moore, wide receiver Braylon
Edwards, running back Shonn Greene, tight end Dustin Keller, safety LaRon Landry and right guard Brandon Moore.
