The Monday night game between the Falcons and the Saints was a big one for the city of New Orleans, coming on the 10th anniversary of the first game at the Superdome following Katrina. In that game, Steve Gleason memorably blocked an Atlanta punt, but there would be no special memories for the Saints on Monday during a 45-32 loss.
One New Orleans native did get a special moment, however, as Deion Jones, who played at Jesuit High School and then later at LSU, managed to record an interception of Drew Brees.
He didn't just pick off a ball though. He picked off a ball while wearing shoes that offered a tribute to the search crews during Katrina, who used a red "X" to mark off houses following Katrina.
More specifically:
Oh and it wasn't just an interception either. He managed to pick off Brees and take it to the house.
He gone!
Monday was far from special for a Saints team that clearly doesn't have the same juice at home that it has had over the last decade. They just don't have a spine left in the defense after multiple injuries to an already-depleted unit.
But for one New Orleans native it was a pretty fantastic and tribute-filled evening.
