A hockey team full of Russian schoolboys found themselves in a rather unique game recently. However, it wasn’t exactly a fair fight.

A group of young hockey players from the Sirius educational center lined up across the ice from a team that included multiple Hall of Famers, two Hart Trophy winners, several Olympians and, oh yeah, Russia’s president.

Yes, Vladimir Putin put his hockey skills on display again, teaming up with some of the best players his country has to offer including present-day stars Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin and legends of the game like Viacheslav Fetisov and Pavel Bure.

Not sure Putin had his best game based on the limited highlights via RT. He had a nice little breakaway and shot it right into the little goalie. I think even the kid taunted him a bit after that (which might not have been the wisest idea). It wasn’t quite like Putin’s eight-goal performance in his recent twirl around the ice with Russia’s hockey legends.

Ovechkin recently said he’d make Putin his captain if the world needed to be saved in a hockey version of “Space Jam.” Might want to review the tape after this one, though, Ovi.

Meanwhile, Bure – The Russian Rocket – went backhand shelf on the little goaltender. Even the miniature padded man had to tap his stick in appreciation of the move. If you’re going to get beat, it might as well be by a Hockey Hall of Famer and not the guy who commands your nation's military. I think that's right.

The kids looked like they had a lot of fun, at least.
