Tom Sestito: Announces retirement
Sestito has decided to hang up his skates and end his professional career, Steve Jones of the Rome Sentinel reports.
Sestito was one of an increasingly rare class of NHL player whose sole role is that of an enforcer. In 154 NHL games -- split between the Blue Jackets, Flyers, Canucks and Penguins -- the winger notched 10 goals, 11 assists and 499 PIM. The veteran won't find his name in the record books and won't be attending a number-retiring ceremony, but his presence on the ice will almost certainly be missed by his teammates.

Penguins' Tom Sestito: Designated for waivers
Sestito (undisclosed) was placed on waivers by the Penguins on Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Once the Penguins added Ryan Reaves in the offseason, Sestito was not going to make the 23-man roster. One of the few remaining enforcers in the league, the winger could certainly get called up during the year, depending on who Pittsburgh is facing -- think Columbus or Philadelphia -- but he'll otherwise serve as a veteran leader with the Baby Pens. Per NHL rules, Sestito was required to be cleared from his undisclosed injury before he could hit the waiver wire.

Sestito did not return to practice after colliding with teammate Ryan Reaves at training camp Friday, Michelle Crechiolo of Pens Inside Scoop reports.
Sestito was likely a long shot to make the 23-man roster for Opening Night, especially after the Pens brought in fellow enforcer Reaves, who has slightly more offensive upside. Sestito figures to spent the bulk of the 2017-18 campaign with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Sestito re-signed a one-year, two-way deal with Pittsburgh on Saturday.
With the addition of Ryan Reaves, it seemed as though Sestito's time with Pittsburgh might come to an end as the organization's lone enforcer, but instead the 32-year-old will stay in the Burgh for another year. The bruising winger has played in just 17 NHL contests over the last two seasons and probably shouldn't be expected to log too many additional games during the 2017-18 campaign.

Sestito was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday.
Sestito will link up with the Baby Pens, who are kicking off their postseason against AHL Providence on Friday. With Pittsburgh having secured its spot in the next round, this move seems designed to get the veteran some much-needed ice time, with a recall coming once the Penguins know when they will be back in action.

Of the handful of injured Pens, Sestito is likely the last one fantasy owners are concerned about returning -- he has just two helpers in 11 games this season. When in the lineup, the winger is averaging less than five minutes of ice time per game and will likely only be utilized as an enforcer to protect Pittsburgh's stars if he suits up.

After serving out a four-game suspension, Sestito garnered just his second point of the season on St. Patrick's Day despite logging a mere 2:07 of ice time. The 32-year-old is one of the last remaining enforcers in the league -- a role he seems to relish. As such, fantasy owners certainly want to pursue other options unless drastically in need of PIM. In his first game with the big club in almost four months, Sestito played his role as an enforcer too well]. The 29-year-old is basically only useful for penalty minutes, so only fantasy leagues that count that stat will find even remote utility in him.

Sestito will have a hearing Thursday for his boarding infraction on Toby Enstrom in the previous night's contest against the Jets.
After missing 48 games as a healthy scratch, Sestito was deliberately inserted into the lineup to help counter a big and physical Winnipeg team, but he may have gone too far, getting whistled for a five-minute major and a game misconduct on his third shift after playing fisticuffs with Chris Thorburn. The eventual ruling from the NHL's Department of Player Safety isn't going to cause much of a stir in the fantasy realm since the Penguins only unleash the human wrecking ball on special occasions.

Sestito registered 20 penalty minutes in three shifts Wednesday against Winnipeg.
As expected, Sestito fought the Jets' Chris Thorburn. Shortly thereafter, he checked defenseman Tobias Enstrom, drawing a five-minute major and a game misconduct. As a result, it wouldn't be surprising to see Sestito face league discipline. He now has 44 penalty minutes in nine NHL games this season.

Penguins' Tom Sestito: Wednesday night all right for fighting?
Sestito could prove to be a good source for penalty minutes Wednesday in Winnipeg, DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.
The recall of Sestito puts Winnipeg on notice that the Pens don't intend to be pushed around Wednesday. Three players sustained serious injuries when the teams met Feb. 16. Coach Mike Sullivan is saying all the right things. "They're a physical team, they've got speed, and our players are well aware of what to expect and the type of game that's going to be played," Sullivan said of the Jets. "We need to play our game. I just think that's part of the identity of our group, that we play the game that gives us the best chance to win." Sestito has accumulated 24 PIM and 15 hits in eight games for Pittsburgh in 2016-17. Chances are high that Sestito will fight the Jets' Chris Thorburn during Wednesday's tilt.

If he plays, Sestito will certainly add some grit to the Pens' roster as they kick off a four-game swing through Western Canada on Wednesday. The 32-year-old has one assist in eight outings this season and is better known as an enforcer whose primary role is standing up for Pittsburgh's stars. If the veteran suits up during the road trip, Tom Kuhnhackl would be the most likely candidate to get bumped from the lineup.
