  • Drew Miller: Released from PTO

Chicago released Miller from his professional tryout agreement Thursday.

The Blackhawks evidently didn't see enough from Miller through the first week of camp to warrant keeping him around for their second preseason game Thursday against the Red Wings, so the 33-year-old winger will now hope to catch on with a different NHL club seeking veteran depth up front. However, at this stage, it looks like Miller may need to head overseas to continue his career.

  • Blackhawks' Drew Miller: Inks PTO

Miller penned a professional tryout agreement with the Blackhawks on Monday, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun Times reports.

Over the past two seasons, Miller logged just 83 contests for the Red Wings -- along with registering six goals and three helpers. Given his limited offensive production, if the veteran secures a permanent deal, it will likely be as a penalty-kill specialist.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: In line to return Saturday

Miller (illness) is projected to be in Saturday's lineup versus the Canadiens, NHL.com reports.

This is good timing since fellow left wing Andreas Athanasiou reportedly will miss the contest due to an undisclosed ailment. However, Miller has been stuck in a bottom-six role where goals are hard to come by.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Out again Tuesday

Miller (illness) will miss his second consecutive game against the Senators on Tuesday night, per Ansar Khan of MLive.com.

The bottom-six forward will now have until Saturday to prepare for the next game. Even when healthy, he's not a viable option in most fantasy settings.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Out sick Monday

Miller will not be available for Monday night's home game against the Senators due to flu-like symptoms.

Miller's illness will afford top prospect Evgeni Svechnikov -- freshly called up from AHL Grand Rapids -- the chance to make his NHL debut.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Recalled Monday

Miller was called up to the NHL on Monday.

Miller was likely called up to provide some depth to a Detroit team that has been consistently banged up all season. He's a physical veteran, but when it comes to fantasy, his six points in 35 games doesn't turn any heads.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Drops down to minors

Miller was reassigned to the minors Tuesday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

The Red Wings needed to clear a roster spot for burner Dylan Larkin -- he's set to return from an upper-body injury -- and it makes sense that they demoted Miller, who had been waived about a week before the All-Star break, but ultimately was retained since he passed through the wire untouched. He's a physical presence, but there's nothing to get excited about from a fantasy perspective here.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Returns to big club

Miller was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Tuesday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

It's been quite the whirlwind for Miller. In this week alone, he's been waived -- only to clear -- then assigned to the minors, and now he's heading back up to the parent club for the Red Wings. Injuries to Steve Ott (shoulder) Dylan Larkin (upper body) necessitated his full-circle movement around the organization. Needless to say, fantasy owners shouldn't concern themselves with this messy situation.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Assigned to AHL Grand Rapids

Miller was reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Monday.

Miller has officially cleared waivers, but the placement of Dylan Larkin (upper body) on injured reserve will reportedly result in him being recalled yet again. That move isn't official yet, but it's quite possible Miller will draw back into the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Bruins.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Waived by Red Wings

Miller was waived by the Red Wings on Sunday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

Miller's ice time has trended downward of late, culminating in him being a healthy scratch Friday against the Sabres. With Niklas Kronwall (groin) back in the lineup Sunday, the team will open up a roster spot by waiving Miller. Assuming he passes through waivers unclaimed, the winger will likely be sent to AHL Grand Rapids.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Lands on scoresheet Saturday

Miller tacked on an assist in Saturday's 6-3 road loss to San Jose.

This was Miller's first helper on the season, which serves as a reminder that his role as a fourth-line winger and penalty-killing specialist is not conducive to garnering fantasy value. On a positive note, though, he does have a terrific shooting percentage (17.4) as a skater who's lit the lamp four times on only 23 shots.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Ice cold of late

Miller has been a liability for the Red Wings, as he's on an active 12-game pointless streak with a minus-8 rating in that span.

Miller's extended slump couldn't come at a worse time. Detroit has five forwards on injured reserve, and coach Jeff Blashill has made the bottom-six winger a healthy scratch in three of the past four games despite the Wings desperately needing help up front. Miller is supposed to be earning his paycheck on the penalty kill, but he's frequently getting burned in his own zone and doesn't play enough -- 10:06 average ice time -- to see many offensive opportunities.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Lights lamp Wednesday

Miller found the back of the net in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Rangers.

Miller displayed keen awareness on the play, moving toward the crease for the score after teammate Luke Glendening trapped goalie Henrik Lundqvist behind his cage. Points may be few and far between for Miller this season -- he has a defense-first mentality -- but it's worth noting that his ice time has climbed for three straight games.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Healthy entering new season

Miller (knee) is listed as healthy on the Red Wings' training camp roster.

Miller appears to be fully recovered from the season-ending surgery he had after injuring his left knee against the Ducks on January 10th. He'll look to bounce back after only playing 28 games last season.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Agrees to one-year contract

Miller (knee) signed a one-year contract extension Monday with Detroit.

Miller is 32 years old and coming off a season marred by significant injuries to his knee and jaw, but evidently the Wings aren't concerned about that moving forward. Miller is a penalty-killing specialist comfortable in Detroit's system. Since landing in the Motor City in 2009-10, he has generated 100 points in 449 games -- that might not cut it in the majority of fantasy leagues, but Miller helps the Wings with his versatility and solid defensive play.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Offer on table to stay in Detroit

The Red Wings have offered Miller a contract extension and a deal could be reached soon, MLive.com reports.

Significant injuries to his jaw and knee limited Miller to 28 contests in the 2015-16 season, but the Wings are willing to look past that due to the winger's proficiency on the fourth line and penalty kill. As noted in the report, his contract could include bonuses for playing a certain amount of games. Darren Helm reportedly has a contract offer on the table as well, but a Miller deal is expected to be worked out first.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Could get contract renewal

Miller, a pending unrestricted free agent, is in consideration for a contract extension by the Red Wings, MLive.com reports.

Detroit worked with a penalty kill that was only decent in 2015-16, as it ranked 14th in the league at 81.6 percent. Miller excels in shorthanded situations, so it would make sense to keep him in the fold, especially if general manager Ken Holland can retain him at a reasonable rate -- Miller certainly didn't break the bank last year at $1.35 million. He underwent surgery to reconstruct his left ACL in January, but the recovery reportedly has gone well for the 32-year-old winger. Consider this nugget to be an FYI to fans of the Winged Wheel. He lacks fantasy value, having eclipsed the 20-point mark just once in his nine-year career.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Hoping to stay in Motor City

Miller feels good about his surgically repaired knee and hopes to return to the Red Wings next season, MLive.com reports.

Miller underwent major surgery in January to reconstruct his left ACL. The report notes that the fourth-line winger resumed skating late in the regular season but did not get the green light to partake in practices. Miller is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, though he has a red flag due to his injury-plagued 2015-16 campaign. Before the serious knee injury, he broke his jaw and missed 14 games. Miller only made his way into 28 contests this season, recording just two points and a minus-5 rating. He can be an effective penalty killer, so he'll hope the Wings can look past his recent injury troubles and give him a contract extension this summer.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Out 4-6 months

Miller (lower body) will be out for 4-6 months after undergoing surgery to reconstruct his left ACL.

Miller's projected timetable for a return extends beyond the remainder of the 2015-16 regular-season campaign. If that holds true, he finishes with just two points and a minus-5 rating in 28 games.

  • Red Wings' Drew Miller: Scheduled for surgery, out long term

Miller (lower body) will undergo surgery Friday to repair his torn meniscus and is facing a long-term absence, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports, citing Red Wings GM Ken Holland.

Miller does not have a clear timetable for his return but he's expected to be out for at least a month after sustaining the ailment last Sunday in a game against the Ducks. Joakim Andersson should get more consistent playing time without Miller in the lineup.
