Alex Burmistrov: Heads back to KHL
Burmistrov signed a one-year deal with Ak Bars of the KHL on Wednesday.
Burmistrov returns to the KHL, where he previously spent parts of three seasons. Selected with the eighth overall pick of the 2010 NHL Draft, the center never quite lived up to expectations after logging 65 points in his lone OHL season. Having officially retired from the NHL, the 26-year-old is now eligible to suit up for the Olympic Athletes from Russia team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in February.

Alex Burmistrov: Retiring from NHL
Burmistrov will retire from the NHL, agent Dan Milstein announced Sunday.
Burmistrov had been a frequent scratch for much of the season, but had seen action in six of the Canucks' previous seven outings. While no official announcement has come from the team yet, one has to wonder if the club was planning on placing the center on waivers for the purpose of reassignment. Selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft, the 26-year-old racked up 37 goals and 64 helpers in 348 NHL games. It seems likely the Russian will return to the KHL, where he previously played parts of three seasons and could be eligible for the 2018 Winter Olympics once he is no longer under contract with Vancouver.

Canucks' Alex Burmistrov: Forced into action
Burmistrov has appeared in four straight outings for the Canucks.
Burmistrov spent much of November watching from the press box as a healthy scratch, but a bevy of injuries -- including Bo Horvat (leg) and Brandon Sutter (undisclosed) -- have opened the door for him to get an opportunity. In those four matchups, the center registered one goal, one shot and a minus-6 rating.

Burmistrov has been making the most out of his limited ice time this season, adding one goal and four assists despite averaging 12:11 over 14 games. On the downside, the Canucks have taken away his power-play opportunities and that's a serious drawback to streaming him as a low-end flier in daily fantasy contests.

Canucks' Alex Burmistrov: Two points Tuesday
Burmistrov scored a goal and dished out a power-play assist in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Ottawa.
Burmistrov played a part in each of his team's first two goals, assisting on Brock Boeser's power-play tally late in the first period before potting his first goal of the season late in the second. The eighth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft will turn 26 this Saturday, so he still has time to turn around what has been a disappointing career so far.

Canucks' Alex Burmistrov: Pens contract with Vancouver
Burmistrov signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Canucks on Saturday, TSN reports.
Flush with cap space, Canucks GM Jim Benning made Burmistrov his fifth signing of the day; he's also reeled in forward Sam Gagner, defensemen Patrick Wiercioch and Michael Del Zotto, and netminder Anders Nilsson. The rapid ascension of Mark Scheifele made Burmistrov expendable, so he was traded to Arizona last season and picked up 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 26 games. Still, he's been on a downward spiral ever since recording career highs in goals (13), assists (15) and a plus-4 rating with Winnipeg in 2011-12.

Burmistrov entered with just one goal through his first 44 games with the Jets and Coyotes, so this performance isn't likely to move the needle for most fantasy owners. It's too late in the game to consider adding Burmistrov, although he isn't a bad DFS sleeper since he has four points over the past six outings.

While it's certainly not great that Burmistrov will have to miss at least the next two contests with his ailment, it looked like it could have been a lot worse. Coyotes' Alex Burmistrov: Leaves Tuesday's game
Burmistrov left Tuesday's game in Boston on a stretcher after taking a big hit from Colin Miller.
Burmistrov took a massive open-ice hit from Miller and bounced off the ice. Though the hit appeared to be relatively clean, Miller was ejected from the game. Thankfully, Burmistrov gave a thumbs up to the crowd as he was being carted off, so hopefully the injury is not as severe as the frightening moment may have initially indicated.

The Russian barely reached seven minutes of ice time before departing, which is especially unfortunate since he likely had more eyes on him in the fantasy realm following a two-assist effort against the Blackhawks the previous night. At any rate, he should be considered day-to-day and scheduled for reevaluation ahead of Sunday's home clash with the Sabres.

Burmistrov bagged a pair of assists in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Blackhawks.
The apples snapped a five-game pointless skid for the former Jet, who has managed nine points in 17 contests since joining the Desert Dogs. While he's been much better with the Coyotes than he was in Winnipeg (two assists in 23 games) before they waived him, the fact that Burmistrov has only managed two points on the power play in Arizona is disappointing considering his 2:20 average.

Coyotes' Alex Burmistrov: Continues to roll with new team
Burmistrov tallied two helpers in a 3-2 overtime win over the Panthers on Monday.
The former Jet now has five points in his first five games in the desert, which is somewhat shocking, considering he managed just two points in 23 contests with Winnipeg before being placed on waivers. Burmistrov has averaged over five more full minutes of ice time with the Coyotes (16:47 vs. 11:02 in Winnipeg) and is receiving healthy power-play time (2:22), so it'll be interesting to see whether the 24-year-old can continue to carve out an increased role after underwhelming for most of his career.
