Hunter Shinkaruk: Won't receive qualifying offer
The Canadiens will not extend Shinkaruk a qualifying offer, which means he'll become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Shinkaruk has failed to make any sort of meaningful impact at the highest level since being selected by Vancouver with the 24th overall pick of the 2013 draft. The 24-year-old winger has only notched four points in 15 NHL appearances since turning pro in 2014-15, and just had what was probably his worst season yet, picking up a meager 10 points in 54 appearances with AHL Laval. He'll hope to catch on with another organization, but at this point it wouldn't be surprising to see him head overseas to continue his career.

Canadiens' Hunter Shinkaruk: Placed on waivers
Shinkaruk was placed on waivers by the Canadiens on Tuesday, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Montreal acquired Shinkaruk from Calgary during the summer. Selected by Vancouver with the 24th overall pick in the 2013 draft, Shinkaruk has just 15 games of NHL experience and will likely find a home at AHL Laval if he clears waivers.

The 24th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, Shinkaruk has just two goals and four points in 15 career NHL games. He was actually waived by Calgary just before the regular season last year, but stuck with AHL Stockton, scoring 17 goals and 32 points. Even if he cracks an NHL lineup next season, he won't have much fantasy value.

Calgary waived Shinkaruk on Tuesday, James Mirtle of The Athletic Toronto reports.
Shinkaruk enjoyed a solid campaign in the minors last season, notching 35 points in 52 games, but it was disappointing to see him take a step back after racking up 51 points in 62 games with AHL Stockton in 2015-16. The 22-year-old winger was a first-round pick in 2013, so he definitely has potential, but the Flames clearly don't think he's ready for a regular role with the big club.

Shinkaruk was assigned to AHL Stockton on Monday.
A month to the day after being called up, the forward will be headed back down after playing only seven games. In those limited appearances, he only tallied one assist, making him more or less worthless in most fantasy leagues. However, if Calgary gets in injury trouble and need some depth, Shinkaruk will probably be one of the first guys called up.

The Flames recalled Shinkaruk from AHL Stockton on Saturday.
Kris Versteeg is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks with a groin injury, so Shinkaruk was brought up Saturday to round out the Flames' depth at forward while Versteeg is on the shelf. Shinkaruk has been highly productive in the minors this season, notching eight points (four goals, four assists) in seven games with AHL Stockton, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of role he slots into if and when he's able to crack Calgary's lineup.

Flames' Hunter Shinkaruk: Headed to AHL Stockton
Shinkaruk was sent down to AHL Stockton on Saturday, Kristen Odland of the Calgary Sunreports.
The 21-year-old Calgary native came over in a trade last season from the Canucks, posting 12 points in 17 games with Stockton and three points in seven games with the Flames. Shinkaruk flashed signed of offensive prowess in previous seasons with AHL Utica (70 points in 119 contests), so the Flames brass is likely looking for much of the same as he heads south to California to open the season.

The Flames have assigned Shinkaruk to AHL Stockton.
Acquired in a trade with the Canucks back on Feb. 22, Shinkaruk ended up scoring two goals and three points in seven games for the Flames. He'll close out the current season with Stockton (where he has tallied 10 points in 14 games to date) and the 21-year-old forward will thus look forward to making a run at a roster spot with the big club next fall to start the 2016-17 season.

Flames' Hunter Shinkaruk: Tallies second NHL goal in loss
Shinkaruk recorded a goal on two shots and added in three hits in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Kings.
After netting his first NHL goal a few games ago, Shinkaruk has now picked up his second. That's now three points in five games for the 21-year-old. Should he finish the season strong, he could be in for some more ice time next season, which will surely delight fantasy owners.

Shinkaruk scored his first NHL goal, but finished with a minus-3 rating as his Flames fell 8-3 in Anaheim.
Shinkaruk's tally came with the Flames trailing 5-0 in the second period, but it does give him points in consecutive games since being recalled from AHL Stockton. The 2013 first-rounder is showing offensive promise, though it's tough to extrapolate too much from a game like this one.

This trade results in a homecoming for the Calgary native Shinkaruk. The 21-year-old forward made his NHL debut Nov. 16, but did not play in any other contests with Vancouver after that. Shinkaruk was sent back down to AHL Utica on Wednesday, Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Shinkaruk had a one game stint in the NHL before being sent back down to the AHL. The first round pick in 2013 didn't score a point in his NHL debut, but does have 13 points in 12 games for the Comets. He's replaced by Alex Grenier in the NHL, who should provide more size to the Canucks' forward groups.

Shinkaruk will make his NHL debut Monday against the Candiens, Dan Murphy of Sportsnet reports.
Shinkaruk posted 13 points in 12 games with AHL Utica to begin the 2015-16 campaign and it earned him a promotion to the Canucks. With the club still dealing with multiple injuries, he will draw into the lineup Monday to make his NHL debut. However, he'll likely skate on the bottom line, likely limiting his action.

On the strength of his two big nights, Shinkaruk now has nine goals in his first 11 games this season. He scored 16 goals in 74 games all of last year.
