After tearing up the American Hockey League over the first month of the season with 10 goals in his first 12 games, the Vancouver Canucks called up Hunter Shinkaruk, their 2013 first-round draft pick, ahead of their game in Montreal on Monday night.

Shinkaruk will be making his NHL debut against the Canadiens on Monday, but before the team took the ice his veteran teammates decided to give him a little initiation into the NHL by making him take a few warmup laps around the rink on his own.

This has become somewhat of tradition in the NHL now for rookies and is usually reserved for their first game in the league, but earlier this season we saw the Arizona Coyotes do it to rookie forward Max Domi when he played in his hometown of Toronto for the first time.

In 86 games for the Utica Comets in the AHL since the start of last season Shinkaruk has scored 26 goals (including the aforementioned 10 in 12 games this season) and recorded 18 assists.
