2023 WWE Money in the Bank results, recap, grades: Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa fall to The Usos in Civil War

WWE brought a pay-per-view to London for the first time in more than 20 years with Saturday's Money in the Bank. The event featured a stacked card with high potential to deliver a memorable evening of action. That's exactly what happened, with a memorable main event "Bloodline Civil War" and even a surprise appearance by John Cena.

The two Money in the Bank ladder matches were won by Damian Priest and Iyo Sky, giving them the contracts for an immediate title shot at a time of their choosing, one of WWE's key storytelling devices for the summer months – and sometimes beyond.

But it was the main event that will have wrestling fans talking for a long time. Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa faced off with The Usos in the match, the next step in the yearslong roller coaster story of Reigns and his family's dominance over the rest of the WWE locker room. In the end, Reigns found himself in a place he had not been since 2019: flat on his back as the referee counted to three.

CBS Sports was with you all night, providing updates, recaps and grades for all the action. Read on for our thoughts on each match from Money in the Bank in London.

2023 WWE Money in the Bank match results, grades

Men's Money in the Bank Ladder Match -- Ricochet vs. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. LA Knight vs. Santos Escobar vs. Butch vs. Damian Priest vs. Logan Paul: The six other participants immediately stared down and attacked Paul before splitting off into pairs to get into the flow of the match. Some attention was paid to teaming up on Priest as he represented the biggest physical force in the match. Paul tried to get Priest to team up, which backfired as Priest quickly turned on him with a right hand. Ricochet hit the first big spot of the match, diving through a ladder to take out several other wrestlers outside of the ring. Shortly after, Paul hit a frog splash onto Priest as Priest was lying on a ladder suspended between the ring and ring steps.

More big spots followed, as expected, including Butch hitting a moonsault from a tall ladder onto most of the other members of the match. Periodically, someone would attempt to climb for the briefcase amid the chaos. A scary spot saw Ricochet and Paul go through tables set up at ringside after Ricochet hit a Spanish fly while the two were struggling to find their footing on the middle rope. Knight appeared to have the match won after clearing out the ring but as he grabbed the briefcase, Priest caught up to him and slammed him from the top of the ladder to the apron with a Broken Arrow before grabbing the case to secure the victory. An unexpected win for Priest and the crowd was fully behind Knight to win. Plenty of high spots throughout, as is required from these matches. Result: Damian Priest wins the Money in the Bank briefcase. Grade: B+

Women's Tag Team Championship -- Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez: Morgan and Rodriguez took over the action early, clearing the ring before Rodriguez powerbombed Morgan from the ring onto Rousey and Baszler on the outside. The champions grabbed control by focusing on the previously injured shoulder of Morgan. Rousey and Baszler kept Morgan isolated, working over Morgan's shoulder and ankle. Rodriguez eventually got the hot tag and cleaned house, using power moves to toss Rousey and Baszler around the ring. Baszler eventually had Morgan in the Kirafuda Clutch but Morgan escaped. Rousey tagged in after but Baszler turned on Rousey, striking her from behind before putting her in the clutch and walking off, leaving Rousey to be finished off after Morgan hit her with Oblivion. The match was fine but the turn didn't really make sense and ended a title reign that didn't need to exist after WWE jumped the gun and stripped Rodgiguez and Morgan after a Morgan injury that did not keep her out of action very long. Result: Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez def. Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler via pinfall to win the titles. Grade: B-

Intercontinental Championship -- Gunther (c) vs. Matt Riddle: Big strikes from both men to start the match before Gunther took over with his trademark chops. Riddle's comeback attempts were cut off by Gunther several times before Gunther began to focus on Riddle's injured ankle, including ripping off some of the tape on the joint before locking in an ankle lock. Riddle was eventually able to hit a ripcord knee and a Floating Bro for a few near falls. Riddle caught Gunther in a triangle choke as Gunther tried to hit a splash but Gunther hit a powerbomb to escape the hold and then locked in another ankle lock, stopping to slap Riddle's foot several times and then lock in the ankle lock one final time to force the tap. As Gunther celebrated with the belt, Drew McIntyre's music hit and the Scot made his way to the ring to come face-to-face with the intercontinental champ. McIntyre dropped Gunther with a Glasgow Kiss after being shoved, then put Gunther down with a Claymore. As for the match itself, it's hard to not think about the better matches Gunther and Riddle have had together in their careers. It's not that this outing was bad by any stretch, just not up to what you know these two are capable of doing together. Result: Gunther def. Matt Riddle via submission to retain the title. Grade: B

Cody Rhodes vs. Dominik Mysterio: Mysterio took an early hit-and-run approach, trying to land punches while avoiding any other contact with Rhodes. Rhodes got frustrated and ripped off his cast before chasing Mysterio down the entrance ramp to bring him back into the ring. After narrowly escaping a Cross Rhodes, Mysterio tried to leave through the crowd only to be chased down again. Rhea Ripley was able to help provide enough distraction that Mysterio was able to send Rhodes into the ring steps and take over the action. After Mysterio's run, Rhodes was able to counter the Three Amigos to score a near fall with the Disaster Kick. A Cody Cutter and Cross Rhodes brought an end to the action. The match was about what you'd expect, with Mysterio trying to take shortcuts until Rhodes caught up to him and put things to an end. Effective in doing the obvious. Result: Cody Rhodes def. Dominik Mysterio via pinfall Grade: B

John Cena made a surprise appearance talking up the London crowd before saying he was trying to bring WrestleMania to the fans. After delivering the message and teasing a London WrestleMania, Grayson Waller interrupted. Waller ran down Cena and the London crowd while making his own pitch for WrestleMania in Australia. Waller then offered to host Cena on "The Grayson Waller Effect" in Australia. Cena said no and turned his back, allowing Waller to jump him. Waller quickly turned around into an Attitude Adjustment and Cena left the ring.

Women's Money in the Bank ladder match -- Zelina Vega vs. Becky Lynch vs. Zoey Stark vs. Bayley vs. Iyo Sky vs. Trish Stratus: Stratus and Stark jumped Lynch as she was making her entrance. Bayley and Sky worked together, with Sky trying to hold off Vega to allow Bayley to set up a ladder. Stratus and Stark continued to target Lynch before Stratus went on a short run of big moves to nearly win the match. A pair of ladders were eventually set up in the center of the ring, allowing for a few threats of big spots, the first of which came when Sky hit a moonsault from the top of the ladder onto everyone but Stratus.

Stratus tried to take advantage of everyone else being down by climbing the ladder but she was shoved to the canvas by Lynch. Stark grabbed a set of handcuffs but Lynch was able to fight her off after just one wrist was cuffed, leading to a brawl and a Manhandle Slam on Stratus onto a ladder. As the action spilled back into the ring, Stark tried to cut Vega off on the way up the ladder, leading to a massive spot in which Vega hit a code red from the top of the ladder onto another ladder suspended on the ropes. Sky tried to take advantage of the chaos but as she was about to grab the briefcase, Bayley knocked the ladder over, costing her own teammate the win. Bayley and Lynch were battling along the ladder when Sky ran back into the ring and used the other half of the handcuff to lock Bayley and Lynch together through the ladder. Sky then climbed the ladder, going over Bayley's back, to win the match. A very creative finish that was set up early in the match just to be paid off in the final moments. Result: Iyo Sky wins the Money in the Bank briefcase Grade: A-

World Heavyweight Championship -- Seth Rollins (c) vs. Finn Balor: Rollins hit an early suicide dive before the early part of the match was fought outside the ring. Back between the ropes, Balor hit a double stomp onto Rollins' injured ribs and then kept the focus of his attack on Rollins' torso with kicks, knees and punches. Rollins stole back momentum with a discus clothesline, though he was slowed by the damage to his ribs. Balor stayed single-minded, quickly turning things around with more attacks to the body, though Rollins was able to avoid the Coup de Grace and hit a pedigree for a near fall at which point Damian Priest ran to ringside with the Money in the Bank briefcase. With Rollins distracted by Priest's presence, Balor was able to attack, landing a few Coup de Graces off the ring steps. After throwing Rollins back in the ring, Balor went to the top rope but found himself distracted as Priest took a few steps toward the ring as though he was going to cash in his contract. This allowed Rollins to move and hit a stomp to score the pin as Priest stared at the ring, not following through on the cash-in threat. Balor and Priest argued at ringside as Rollins walked off triumphant. Simple psychology in the match, with Rollins' injury being the focal point and providing easy drama. Result: Seth Rollins def. Finn Balor via pinfall to retain the title Grade: B+

Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa vs. The Usos: Jimmy Uso and Sikoa started off the match, with Sikoa using his strength to dominate Jimmy in the first few collar and elbow ties. Sikoa got the best of some strike exchanges before Jimmy distracted the referee, allowing Jey Uso to get a cheap shot in and help turn the tide. Reigns then demanded a tag rather than let Sikoa square off with Jey. Sikoa looked frustrated but did tag in Reigns. Reigns dominated Jey briefly but Jimmy got the tag, forcing Reigns to bail from the ring before The Usos could land a double superkick. A pep talk from Paul Heyman fired up Reigns, leading to him and Sikoa taking over on Jey for a stretch. Any bit of Uso momentum was repeatedly cut off by Reigns and Sikoa, though Reigns was constantly partially distracted by the crowd's hostile chants.

Jey finally took a hot tag and blitzed Sikoa with offense. Reigns was eventually able to cut Jey off with a pair of Superman punches before The Usos hit him with a double spear that forced Sikoa to make a desperate break-up of the pin. Things broke down into a brawl featuring all four men until Reigns nearly won with a Superman punch of Jimmy. Jimmy came right back with a superkick counter to a Reigns spear but a splash attempt after was countered by Reigns into a guillotine choke. In the ensuing chaos, the referee was knocked out of the ring, leaving him down and out as Jey pinned Reigns after a 1D.  Sikoa got back into the match after the referee was down. Reigns and Sikoa hit stereo Rock Bottoms, followed by Samona Spikes and spears. Sikoa stacked the Usos on top of each other and Reigns laid on top for the pin, only for both Usos to kick out.

Sikoa tried to put Jimmy through the announce table but Jimmy moved out of the way. In the ring, Jey and Reigns traded big moves until a Reigns spear for a two-count, which Jey kicked out of while also delivering a low blow. The Usos then delivered superkicks to Reigns before Jey hit a splash from the top rope to score the pin. That pinfall marked the first time Reigns had been pinned since December 2019. Bloodline matches are what they are with a lot of over-the-top dramatics and in-ring chatter but they also almost always deliver the goods when it comes to the actual wrestling. This was another case of exactly that and a red-hot London crowd certainly helped elevate the match and build to a huge moment. Result: The Usos def. Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa via pinfall Grade: A
