WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn come face-to-face ahead of Elimination Chamber

Rhodes gave Zayn a pep talk ahead of Zayn's match with Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber

With Elimination Chamber taking place on Saturday, WWE was in the final push to the show during Raw on Monday night. That push included Sami Zayn making his way to Raw ahead of his match with Roman Reigns for the undisputed WWE universal championship.

Zayn came face-to-face with Cody Rhodes, who won the Royal Rumble to guarantee his shot at the titles at WrestleMania. Rhodes and Zayn were fired up on the microphone, continuing to build one of the best stories of the decade in WWE.

In other action, Becky Lynch and Bayley both made a push to be added as an extra entrant in the women's Elimination Chamber match, leading to a high-stakes triple threat match with Raw women's champion Bianca Belair.

Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn come face-to-face

Sami Zayn interrupted the show and called Cody Rhodes to the ring. Zayn asked Rhodes if he meant it when he said he believed Zayn could defeat Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber. Rhodes said it doesn't matter if he believes it, it matters if Zayn believes it, which Zayn said he knows he's capable but doesn't know if he can do it because The Bloodline always finds a way to win. Rhodes then gave a rousing speech, telling Rhodes that Reigns is just a man. The segment ended with Rhodes saying he didn't want Zayn to show up at Raw next week because he'd rather see him at WrestleMania.

Cody Rhodes def. Baron Corbin via pinfall after hitting Cross Rhodes. After Rhodes left the promo with Zayn, he stumbled into a Corbin backstage interview. Corbin was running down Rhodes and his family, leading Rhodes to deliver a punch before demanding a referee for an impromptu match.

Rhodes and Zayn delivered the goods on the mic, which is a surprise to no one. WWE has found themselves in a position where they have two of the hottest title challengers in years and it would be a colossal mistake should Reigns still hold the belts by the time WrestleMania ends. Still, they can't really put the title on Zayn at Elimination Chamber because that title isn't going anywhere before the biggest show of the year. Maybe they can find a way to force him into the Rhodes vs. Reigns match since the chemistry is clicking so much between all involved. Grade: A-

Becky Lynch and Bayley fail in bid for Elimination Chamber spot

Becky Lynch opened the show in the ring with Adam Pearce. She explained that she'd lost sight of her goal to wrestle for the title at WrestleMania and asked Pearce to up the ante and add her as an extra participant in the Elimination Chamber match for a shot at Raw women's champion Bianca Belair. This request brought out Bayley, who insisted Pearce instead add her to the Chamber match. Eventually, Belair made her way to the ring and said she wanted to face the best of the best at WrestleMania and suggested a triple threat match for later in the night, with Lynch or Bayley being added to the Elimination Chamber should they manage to win.

Bianca Belair def. Bayley and Becky Lynch via pinfall after hitting Lynch with a KOD onto Bayley. IYO SKY interfered in the match, which eventually led the six women set for the Elimination Chamber to run to ringside where they brawled with each other and SKY. The chaos eventually settled down and Belair was able to get the clean victory.

The logic of the whole situation didn't make much sense. Belair claimed she wanted to face the best at WrestleMania but why would she want to insert herself into the match were that the case? Why not suggest a one-on-one between Lynch and Bayley with the winner getting into the Elimination Chamber match instead of involving herself with the goal of preventing their involvement in the Chamber? The match was solid, though, and that's worth something. Grade: B-

What else happened on WWE Raw?

• The Judgement Day def. The Street Profits via pinfall after Finn Balor hit a Coup de Grace on Angelo Dawkins. After the match, Judgement Day tried to take out Montez Ford before Edge and Beth Pheonix ran in for the save. As Phoenix was about to finish off Dominik Mysterio, Rhea Ripley -- who Judgement Day claimed was not there -- ran into the ring to hit Phoenix with a Riptide.
• Bobby Lashley signed the contract to face Brock Lesnar at Elimination Chamber but not before taking out Lesnar with a spear. Lashley refused to come to the ring to sign the contract, leading Lesnar to storm up the entrance ramp, taking out security guards before getting blindsided by Lashley. Lashley then grabbed the contract, signed it and left it on Lesnar's body.
• Piper Niven def. Michin via pinfall with a Loch Ness Slam.
• Nikki Cross, Carmella & Asuka def. Natalya, Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan via submission when Asuka forced Morgan to tap out.
• The Miz hosted Seth Rollins on "Miz TV." After Miz took shots at Rollins for being eliminated from the Royal Rumble by Logan Paul and eventually pushed Rollins too far by pointing out that he had main evented WrestleMania while Rollins never had. This led to a brawl, with Rollins hitting Miz with a stomp before Austin Theory ran in, eventually hitting Rollins with A-Town Down.
• Rick Boogs def. The Miz via pinfall with a press slam. Miz was still down and compromised from Rollins' attack when Boogs came to the ring for their planned match. Boogs made quick work of Miz to score his second consecutive win in their rivalry.
