Despite opportunities to score a spot on the upcoming WrestleMania 38 event on both of the past two episodes, Seth Rollins is still without a place on the biggest show of the wrestling calendar. Rollins failed again during Raw on Monday night, losing a match with AJ Styles with a spot opposite Edge at WrestleMania on the line.

Rollins opportunity came after he spent much of Raw continuing to angle for his WrestleMania opportunity before interrupting a Styles promo and suggesting "The Phenomenal One" sit WrestleMania out and allow him to face Edge. WWE officials then made the main event official, Rollins vs. Styles, winner to face Edge. But, again, Rollins' plans were foiled, leaving him in a rage as the show went off the air.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Allstate Arena in Chicago.

Seth Rollins fails to secure WrestleMania spot ... again

Seth Rollins spent the show continuing his search for a way to get on the WrestleMania card. This included interrupting the tag match between The Mysterios and the team of Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode as well as interrupting AJ Styles' promo directed at Edge. Rollins suggested Styles sit WrestleMania out and allow him to face Edge instead. While Styles obviously refused, WWE officials Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville announced Rollins and Styles would meet later in the evening with the winner getting the match with Edge.

AJ Styles def. Seth Rollins via disqualification after interference from Edge. After the expected solid match between Styles and Rollins, Edge ran to ringside and hit Styles in the back with a chair. This resulted in a disqualification and cost Rollins his opportunity at making WrestleMania. Rollins grabbed a microphone after the match and announced that next week's Raw would not happen unless he got his WrestleMania match. Rollins then destroyed the ringside area before the show went off the air.

All the problems with this storyline continued on Monday night. Rollins was never believable as someone who wouldn't find himself on a two-night WrestleMania card, nor was it believable that WWE would throw away weeks of storytelling for Edge vs. Styles to randomly plug Rollins into the spot. So, fans were simply left wondering how Rollins would come up short this week and all along the way, the Chicago fans were chanting for Cody Rhodes, who is believed to be the man who will face Rollins at WrestleMania as he returns to WWE. The match was, as expected, totally fine. The story, however, lacks any sort of compelling drama and is weeks and weeks past its expiration date. Grade: B-

What else happened on WWE Raw?

  • "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's music hit to open the show but it only signified the arrival of Kevin Owens in a bald cap, sporting knee braces and in a full Austin get-up. Owens cut a promo as Austin before Austin's music hit again -- which was simply another ruse by Owens, who stunned a member of the ring crew before the segment ended.
  • The Mysterios def. Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode via pinfall when Dominik Mysterio hit Roode with a frog splash. After the match, The Miz attacked Rey Mysterio and ripped off his mask.
  • Omos def. Commander Azeez & Apollo Crews via pinfall in a handicap match after hitting Crews with a chokebomb and pinning both men simultaneously.
  • Natalya & Shayna Baszler def. Rhea Riley & Liv Morgan via pinfall when Baszler pinned Morgan after a Hart Attack. After the match, women's tag champions Queen Zelina and Carmella attacked both teams, getting back on the same page after they'd brawled backstage earlier in the night.
  • Becky Lynch cut a promo saying that Bianca Belair is not willing to "sell her soul" in the same ways she is to be on top of the game and she'd prove that once again at WrestleMania.
  • Finn Balor def. Austin Theory via pinfall with a roll-up. The finish came after Pat McAfee repeatedly distracted Theory during the match.
  • RK-Bro def. Alpha Academy via pinfall when Riddle hit Chad Gable with Bro Derek. After the match, Otis took out both members of RK-Bro before the Street Profits ran in and took out both members of Alpha Academy. However, the duo then turned on Riddle, taking him out as Randy Orton was still down outside the ring.
